Thanks so much to all for your responses! So far, for

a weekly rate, the Radisson is 113 per night with tax.

The Staybridge Suites is 127.99 per night plus tax,

but does include breakfast and has a full kitchen.

That is for a one bedroom with a pullout couch. Would

love to find something more in the 80 per night range,

but that might not be possible. Barb

Thanks so much! I'm checking these out. Much cheaper

rates on the internet vs. calling the hotels directly,

I am finding. barb

That was the nids rate. I ended up at a Ramada in

Canoga Park--not the ritz but only 564 for the week.

very close to Woodland Hills, which is where we will

be quite a bit. I got the AARP rate, which helped. I

went thru Hotel.com. They have discounted rates, I

believe. Barb

Have any of you bid on rooms using Priceline.com? When I travel to the East

coast to see my older son in college, I have consistently saved a lot of

money using Priceline. I just choose the area I want, specify the quality,

such

as 3 stars, 3.5, etc. and put in a bid of approx. 50% off the rack rate.

For ex., I have stayed at the 4 star Westin in Princeton, N.J. a number of

times using this approach and have gotten a $285 room at $85 plus Priceline

fees

of approx. $10 per night. I have done this in many other places, when we

have tried consults, etc or gone on vacation. Now Priceline offers rooms at

set price but I have always saved a lot more by using their original bid

approach. After doing this for years, when I cannot get a Priceline room in a

particular area, I am disgusted to have to pay over $100 per night at a very

marginal motel.

We use Priceline quite a bit as well... with pretty good results.
