Mum accused of killing autistic son in rush to get to school

A mother whose 11-year-old son died when her car crashed, was yesterday accused

of killing him in her rush to get him to school.

Mold Crown Court heard that , 36, was driving her son Jordan and his

two sisters to school late after the boy - who was autistic - deliberately

missed his usual bus.

It was put to Ms that in her hurry, she drove erratically before veering

off a dual carriageway in front of another car after making a last-minute

decision to buy fuel.

She then allegedly lost control of her Vauxhall Corsa, and it overturned,

leaving Jordan with fatal head injuries.

Ms denies causing Jordan's death by careless driving and claims a

mechanical fault with the car caused the crash.

Oliver King for the prosecution dismissed Ms claims to the police that her

steering developed a shudder and that she attempted to slow down and turn safely

into the slip road before the crash. Mr King told the court a police vehicle

examiner found a nut on the steering wheel was loose, but this would not have

affected the steering.

The case continues.
