Guest guest
Kristie First off be so glad you are seeing him at age 3. Second, are you having lab work done before you go? If so be sure and take 2 copies of the results with you, one for you and one for the office in case they do not get a copy. If you have not planned to get preliminary labs, try to becasue it really helped us make the most out of the 1st visit. Dr G will talk with you at length about medical history and process. Take notes, or better yet tape it like some other smart parents did (not me). Have a list of questions ready. Then he will take your son back and look him over (ears, nose, push on belly...the usual a pediatrician does!) and give you all your Rx's. We were with him about 2 hours. > > > > Hi all! Guest guest
Kristie, Bring up any concerns you may have. Scared to put your son on prescription drugs? Tell him. Give him a chance to explain his protocol. Scared to have more kids because you could have another afflicted child? Tell him. If you tell him your concerns, he can help put you at ease. Expect to leave his office beaming with a great deal of hope. He is an optimist. I love that. I took my son when he was 3 as well. He was talking but mostly fill in the blank things he had memorized such as " I want ___. " He wouldn't (couldn't?) look at my face and he only wanted to play by himself. I was told that he would be recovered in about 2 years. Well about 1 year into it he was healthy. Now he gets sick no more than any other kid and when he does get sick, he recovers more quickly than I do from an illness. He made 3 1/2 years progress in speech his first 14 months with Dr. Goldberg. The therapist said she had never seen anything like it. We are three years into it now and my son is close to recovered, though that is such a vague term. He has some quirks: he still rehearses movies, he has some trouble if you give him too many instructions at once,... When he is sick the quirks are more pronounced. But I get eye contact, he asks me questions, he tells jokes (albeit bad ones!). He's not where I'd like, but I shoot for the moon... oh, and by the way so does Dr. Goldberg. My son's recovery is taking longer than 2 years, but I don't mind that. I love hearing this every year: " Let's make this a really good year for your son. " In a world where therapists are just trying to help your child live with autism, giving them crutches because they will forever be cripple (they think), it is so refreshing to work with someone who, like you, has real hope for your child. Kristie, it's going to be a bumpy ride with viral die-off, candida die-off, finding therapists who believe in your child-- but it will be amazing, watching " his lights turn on " for lack of a better way to describe it. Well, this was long. Sorry about that. Good luck with Dr. Goldberg. I wish big and wonderful things for your son Aidan. Sincerely, April Re: First visit in July with Dr Goldberg, what can I expect?
