Guest guest
I suggest getting the book Special Diets for Special Kids. There are some good recipes in there. You may need to substitute some of the things like soy milk for a different kind, but they work out fine. I've also substituted oil for butter. My son also loves the cereals made by Envirokidz. A fantastic milk substitute is DairyFree, you can find it online... it's a potato based milk, powder form that you mix up. It's sweeter than cow's milk, which was fine with my kids (even my non-asd kid loves it). My son can have fritos & lays potato chips, they have simple ingredients. Hope that helps! I know it is overwhelming at first, but it will get easier! I make a lot of plain meats, veggies & fruits. You can find good Millet bread too... --- meljackmom <meljackmom@...> wrote: > I need some new food ideas. > What are some of your kids favorites that are > basically > no dairy > no goats milk > no soy > no wheat > no nuts > not red > > Does that about eliminate everything? > I am mainly looking for some new snack food ideas. > Meals are not a > problem, but increased health and energy translate > into increased > appetite that im not prepared for! Guest guest
Hi , My son is extremely picky. He is all the " nos " below, plus corn. He will eat: - dried fruit (I can find several that have no preservatives or added sugar, mostly at Trader Joe's) - fruit leather (I look for organic) - Namaste Foods No Sugar Added Pancake & Waffles (from a mix; I use a 4 oz. jar of baby food pears in place of some of the liquid and add fresh, frozen or dried blueberries) and use rice milk. I recently used egg sub and they turned out great. This is the only GFCFSF waffle mix my son will eat. We have a Mickey Mouse Waffle - Iron that he loves (Amazon.com, $25 w/free shipping) - Nitrite-free bacon (Applegate Farms) - Nitrite-free hot dogs (turkey, chicken or beef, also Applegate Farms) - Organic V - veggie juice by Evolution with only 5 vegetables (tastes sweet, but I mix it with organic grape or other juice) - Rice Crispie-type cereal from EnviroKids - EnviroKids cereal bars - Rice cakes (read ingredients as some varieties contain gluten if they have soy and some have dairy and nuts) - Very fresh, ripe bananas and apples - Hamburger patties - French fries - Salmon burger patties (from TJ's and sometimes Costco has them) - Allergen-free chicken nuggets and fish sticks ($$$$, plus they have corn so these are a 'treat') - Taquitos (again, these have corn, so they are a treat for my son) - Various kinds of cookies, mostly by Pamela's, for an occasional treat - Organic juices since he won't eat fresh veggies or fruits - EnerG foods makes a good 'white' bread that lasts a long time in the fridge, but it makes my son hyper (I think it's the tapioca). They also now make a yeast-free variety, but the verdict is still out around here on whether it's palatable (which is a shame, since it looks really good). - Rice pasta (Tinkyade brand is the best, IMO). If your son can have sheep's milk, you can find sheep's milk 'parmesean' or pecorino cheese for the pasta, with a little olive oil. My son wouldn't go near a red sauce. I have tried several baking mixes. Namaste Foods makes the best, but I think I tried Ms. Robens brownies and cupcakes and they were really, really good. I'm always looking for ways to sneak in some fruit or veggies; pureed baby food works great as a sub for some of the liquid in many recipes. So does TJ's mango sauce and applesauce. www.glutenfreemall.com has several items. I'm not much of a cook on a daily basis (if we're entertaining, that's another story), so most of these ideas take just a few minutes to prep. I do most of my shopping at Trader Joe's, Henry's, Jimbo's and Costco. HTH a little. Kristy Looking for new food ideas I need some new food ideas. What are some of your kids favorites that are basically no dairy no goats milk no soy no wheat no nuts not red Does that about eliminate everything? I am mainly looking for some new snack food ideas. Meals are not a problem, but increased health and energy translate into increased appetite that im not prepared for! Anything thats a homerun with your kid Im wiling to try. Did I mention picky eater? Guest guest
, I can't think what it has in it right now (beside chick peas and oil), but my kids love hummus (we have gotten a good brand at Sam's off and on). The plain flavor is pretty good. Some of my kids dip carrot nubs in it instead of bread. Believe it or not, one of my boys actually likes to dip canned beans into it. Another easy snack we've just gotten onto is FROZEN GRAPES! You just wash them and freeze them... they have a great, sort of frozen slush texture and are really refreshing. I freeze them right on the stem. Since our kids have to stay low on the fruit and sugar, this is a great sort of " mini popsicle " type treat. I have been warned that they don't keep really well for extended periods of time in the freezer, but with 5 kids at our house that is not a problem. Guest guest
Thanks for the reminder on the book . My son avoids Darifree. I may have to try the Vanilla Nesquik idea posted on another thread. > > > I need some new food ideas. > > What are some of your kids favorites that are > > basically > > no dairy > > no goats milk > > no soy > > no wheat > > no nuts > > not red > > > > Does that about eliminate everything? > > I am mainly looking for some new snack food ideas. > > Meals are not a > > problem, but increased health and energy translate > > into increased > > appetite that im not prepared for!
