Guest guest
Trader Joes and Whole Market makes a gouda brand of goat cheese that is excellent. i use it shredded or just slice it for them. i've also gotten a cheddar type in a health food store. it just depends on what these stores stock. also try a gourmet type shop. --- sharolyn68 <Sharolyn68@...> wrote: > Hi. Guest guest
My kids like the Alta Dena brand, and it's fairly easy to find and not too terribly expensive. We have also tried Jersey Girl, which has a lot of varieties (Jack, cheddar, mozzarella), but it's more $$. We also like the Gouda from TJ's (just recently discovered it). Does anyone know if goat cheese contains lactose? Guest guest
I'm not sure about lactose, but doesn't goat cheese have casein? I thought goat cheese would be off-limits? Guest guest
Hi Heidi, Most kids are allergic to *bovine* (cow) casein. Goat and sheep casein is different at the molecular level, and it is a more similar protein to human milk. Therefore, most kids can tolerate it. Donna > > > Hi. Guest guest
Heidi, Dr. Goldberg is OK with goat milk as long as the child isn¹t sensitive to it (i.e. on a food screen and/or per parental observation) and for our kids he says it must be pasteurized... unpasteurized milk can spread viruses and bacterial infections and our kids are especially susceptible to those things. Guest guest
Sharolyn. No, I haven¹t tried it! Never heard of it, actually! We don¹t have Costco in our area... but please let me know what Dr. Goldberg says about it... we might pass by a Costco on a road trip and I¹m always game to try something new. I¹m sure he would say ³No.² if it isn¹t pasteurized, though... it should say if it is or isn¹t on the label. My husband just bought it at Costco? I wonder if this is safe for my son? Sharolyn
Guest guest
I suspect -- although I don't know for sure -- that buffalo milk & cheese would be a " no " because buffalo is *bovine* -- too close to cows. Guest guest
I talked with Dr G yest and asked about the buffalo milk cheese and he had a good laugh. He never heard of such a thing and said to go ahead and give it a try. He also said goat milk cheese is fine, as long as pasteurized. He said on the diet, no bovine protein(cow's milk) Sharolyn > > > > Sharolyn. > > > > No, I haven¹t tried it! Never heard of it, actually!
