Guest guest
, I'm not really well versed on cancer. I've always thought of it as an inability of the body to recognize and mount enough of an immune response to fight the cancer (so maybe in some people immune dysfunction that would make them more vulnerable?). There are theories of viral triggers for some cancer. Burkitt¹s Lymphoma is associated with CFIDS. I think I've heard that some cancer can produce substances to help it hide. Some tumors love folic acid... we have an acquaintance who is working on attaching chemo meds to folic acid to concentrate it in the tumor and cause less damage to surrounding tissue (the company is Endocyte in West Lafayette, IN). Anyway, that's about all I know. As far as Lou Gehrigs, I found this... " autoimmune responses which occur when the body's immune system attacks normal cells have been suggested as one possible cause for motor neuron degeneration in ALS. Some scientists theorize that antibodies may directly or indirectly impair the function of motor neurons, interfering with the transmission of signals between the brain and muscles. " That is just one of many theories, though.
