Guest guest
Hi all so I thought I would post the answer I just got from our compouding pharmacist....I found the 'monograph' on line on Valtrex. By googling manufacturer...I then found there are 1000mg capsules, that have a white coating w/o aluminum see cut n'paste of ingredients below. So we are switching to white 1000mg caplets, & we are just going to cut them to 250 mg....until we are able to titre up to 500mg tid. He is also going to make a liquid for one of our boys... I also thought I would share a technique he told me if we wanted to use the blue ones....he said to crush it with a mortor & pestal 1/2way then strain powder through a tea strainer...(blue stuff flakes apart). It works awesome! Much better than washing Each white caplet contains valacyclovir hydrochloride equivalent to 1000 mg valacyclovir and the inactive ingredients carnauba wax, cellulose, crospovidone, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, povidone, silicon dioxide, and titanium dioxide. The white, film-coated caplets are printed with edible blue ink. Yep - a total pain, but we wash our valtrex every time (quite well). DAN! doc's orders... > > HELP! Guest guest
Antivirals aren't a one size fits all approach. Some do better with Valtrex, some with others. Plus, acyclovir has to be dosed 5x a day which can make it difficult for some. I know for us, I have to have the school give 2 doses otherwise he'd never get them all. Plus, there are unfortunately many people that seem to think that Valtrex is the only choice and for whatever reason, the best choice. cherylSo why are people struggling with the blue coated Valtrex and not using Acyclovir instead ?
