Guest guest
Has anyone on the protocal had a child not respond to SSRIs due to pre-existing dopamine related issues? Did Dr. G switch you to a dopamine-related drug (antagonist, reuptake drug, etc, I know he is not a fan of stimulants)? Was it successful? I really want to make an appointment for my son with Dr. G but, I have been hesitant because my son's genetic pool is filled with possibilities of ADHD and dopamine related disorders/symptoms (as well as some mood disorders possibility related to serotonin dysfunction) and thus, I wasn't sure if he fit because of this. My son is PDD-NOS, exhibits relatively no obvious autistic symptoms now (age 3.5) but did at 2 (in intermittent cycles - ie hand flap one day, then it would come go, etc), he now looks like a very energetic, ADHD child with a speech delay (in other words, his autistic looking symptoms disappeared fairly quickly after they appeared - which I believe is immune system related). He still struggles with language and is progressing slowly, but normally. So, I guess this is my not so eloquent way of saying that my son probably is a case but with a very strong family history of ADHD issues which may or may not be very tied to an inherited dopamine metabolism dysfunction. Has anyone's child fit this kind of subtype and were you able to use the medications with success? What worked? I feel like my son is fairly recovered now with regard to his previous autistic behaviors, but he needs something to take him to the next level with cognition and attention. Thanks for any input, love to hear it.
