Guest guest
Ever since (now 4 this June) was right be for he turned 2, at the tail end of a cold he would get this horrible cough, and I thought 'well he just coughs weird'...however, this past end of November/beginning of December, he had a cold, and then at the end, had this HORRIBLE cough, which I 'thought' was Croup, mainly because it was a weird cough I never heard before (we have been luck not to have it in our family at all, knock on wood) AND because other than at night, we rarely heard the cough, and he didnt 'seem' sick during the day... So when we took him into the doctor, she said it didnt seem like croup to her, but she also didnt hear him cough the whole appointment, go figure...so we left that appt with the instructions that if he got a fever, or worse, to call her right away... That night was a HORRIBLE night he was coughing and gasping and just plain not able to sleep because of it...the next morning, although very tired, he still didnt seem any sicker than the clear runny nose that was the tail end of the cold he had (at this point he had been sick with the cold for almost a week and a half, and then also been coughing like this for about a week)...so I called the doc, and after I left the message I searched online for 'weird sounding cough'...and I heard soundbites of Croup...nope not it...then I heard several Whooping Cough sound bites...TOTALLY IT! When the doc called I explained the cough, she agreed it probably was it, especially since the Whooping was so distinct, and go figure he did it while on the phone so she got to hear it partially...she told me that there is testing, however, since he was able to stay hydrated and still eat, and didnt appear sick, other than end of the cold and not sleeping well, she offered some medicine to help him sleep, however, when we talked about it, we agreed to try to wait it out, but if he got any sicker, ANY fever, ANY change we would call her back and get him in RIGHT AWAY....he had one more night that was bad, but not as bad as that night, and then it went away within a few more nights... Then now, he has it again..at first, the night before last, I thought it was his acid reflux acting up, he only Whooped once or twice that night, and sometimes it does sound like the gasping when you have acid reflux and are laying down (if you have it you know what I mean)...so we gave him his zantac, and he seemed fine, again other than being at the tail end of a cold (no fever, just clear runny nose)..he was just tired...then last night, a little worse, but I didnt even cross my mind that it was Whooping again...well, today at nap, it was horrible! He was whooping every 2 minutes (he doesnt even nap unless he is sick anymore, so the nap in itself was typical of a cold)...BUT he actually gasped for air after not breathing for a second, I came running into our room (he napped in our bed and has been sleeping with us for the last couple of nights when he was sick and now will sleep with us until he is better, gosh, what if he was in his own room and we couldnt hear him gasp like that...argh!...) Anyway, Anyone know if you can have Whooping Cough more than once? What if he hasnt recovered from the first 'whooping cough'... Our DAN did lots of viral titers (at our first appt with him) which happened to be after the first 'whooping cough'...and he DID do the Pertusis (which is whooping cough, right?) titer on Ethan, but somehow it was NOT run on , he told me it was an oversite since we had both of them there for all of the bloodwork and it must just not have gotten in the orders, so at our last appt (2 weeks ago), he told me that we would run it on the next testing bloodwork and we agreed there wasnt a reason to just do that by itself since we didnt have any bloodwork done then... SO, the BIGGER question of the day is, could this have actually started long ago when I first heard this cough after a cold? Before he was 2? He never got THIS bad before, and seems to get worse at the end of each cold...SO, could really this be HIS viral issue he is dealing with? Has it gone to his brain (from his Pertusis vaccine) and then each time he gets a cold, it pokes is horrible head out? His other viral titers were all high, High M, M, and R, High Viracella (sp?), and High HHV6, however the DAN didnt give us Valtrex for his HHV6 because they 'werent high enough to do that right away' and alsohe said that since we did the High Dose Vitamin A treatment in January, he 'wanted to wait for 3 months of high doses before we started anything else'...my instinct says NO, mainly my Mom intuition, and secondly, everything I have read and researched stated the High Dose Vitamin A protocol that I did was correct, and I used thee version in Children with Starving Brains (2 Days, MEGA dose of Mycelized Vit A, 400,000 IU's of a dose, then a daily maintence dose of 25,000 IU's...and then the high dose could be repeated in 6-9 months if needed) both boys did great on that, and the 2 day high dose was the end of January, and although I think it kicked up more yeast for them, we saw gains and no other side effects...the DAN (as I posted almost 2 weeks ago now) said I did it WAY to high daily, that he said go down to 12,000 IUs each day, then on the one month marker from the first high dose, give them half (200,000 IU's) for one day, then go to 6,000 IU's for 30 more days, then one high day of 100,000 IU's, then 30 more days at the daily 6,ooo IU's...THEN we would talk about other viral treatments if nessacary... I have never read anywhere about this Vit A protocol, and I didnt debate it since really, he is the doctor, however, I still researched it after the appt, and still havent found the same thing anywhere... SO, my GUT tells me that he is on the wrong track, and my GUT is telling me 's main issue is Whooping Cough/Pertusis, could I be right? ANY thoughts would be greatly appreciated, email me privately if you need to, but I need some suggestions and help here...what would you do? Our family doc is a real reasonable doctor and will listen if we have concerns, and has accepted our biomedical journey and said will work with us... However, I am afraid if he gets worse, and I take him into the hospital/doctor, I will be UNARMED with info and they will just push unessacary medicine/antibiotics/tests on him... I am NOT against antibiotics when NEEDED, but not for a cure-all...so if ANYONE has ANY experience with this, please share with me, as armed as I can be with doc's I want to be...so I can HELP him, not hurt him..
