Guest guest
Interesting, did you ever learn specifically what element of the suppressed immune system was causing the fears? - Jandjatindy@... wrote: , When I read that your child has fears, I just had to jump in to tell you that until my daughter got on the nids program, she also had fears. In fact the first time we went to see Dr. G 3 yrs ago, we DROVE from Indianapolis to LA because after 911 she would not fly. She was also horrified of dogs after being nipped by one. Last summer we flew with no fear, and she now has a 85 pound dog that she trained with us....all fears are gone!! In fact the picture of her holding her dog is on the board in Dr. G's office. Thank God we found him. Joni
Guest guest
Hi - You could go to groups and choose database, and then go into the various folders, do a search for 'anxiety' (because you'll get more and fear, anxiety, panic, and OCD likely come from a similar part of the brain. There are a lot of immunological findings (more than you may be able to scan thru!) on the topic. I think a lot are studying cytokines and their relation to these disorders. Others show some types of antibodies interacting w/the brain, like the basal ganglia (a major finding in OCD and I think anxiety), etc. When you're learning about cytokines, remember various parts of the immune system express cytokines, so it's not particularly an immune deficiency involved, but more likely an overabundance of the pro-inflammatory cytokines (although maybe a deficiency of down-regulating cytokines etc blah blah blah!lol). Like, eosiniphils express some types of cytokines (hence the response to diet), infections, white blood cells, etc etc etc. They already know chronic stress can " cause illness " (it works both ways), but I guarantee you that one day chronic generalized anxiety disorder will be found to have an immunological cause and is not just a psychosomatic illness. I have experienced this myself quite a few times over. In my experience, when I am having an exacerbation of PANDAS, my fear levels can really rise. I'm afraid for the boys to play outside 'cause they're gonna get West Nile Virus (I know it's unreasonable so no, I don't keep them inside), I'm afraid of certain roads because we're going to have a head on collision, I'm afraid mean thoughts are going to bring on bad karma, etc etc etc. I go on antibiotics, often the illogical fear and anxiety bleed away within 3 days. Let me tell you it is wild! Especially since I've experienced being " normal " , then suddenly get slammed with all these crazy mental problems. Anxiety is paramount, too. And I am often running a low-grade temp like 99.5 to 100.0 when this is at it's peak. I've even found some probiotics will trigger anxiety (one reason why Dr G recommends limited strains-there's actually documention on some types of lactobacillus worsening PANDAS). Find some of those abstracts, but it will set your brain on overload!
