Can someone tell me how close you need to watch the weight? I am 37, 5'10" and got as low as 135 but am now creeping back to 145. Due to my Crohn's I had tried a modified version of the specific carbohydrate diet, now of course they say 60 mg of protein is the goal (at least from animal sources) and if I don't eat carbs I get terrible headaches. I am a generally healthy eater but want to keep a handle on it. I had a biopsy with my GI before I got into the liver clinic. The liver specialist didn't like my biopsy results, too sketchy, indicated he might do another in a year. It took so long to recover from the four dips they took out of me I dread the thought. How often do your docs require biopsies??? Supposedly there is no cirrosis yet, so that is good. Can someone explain to me the process of this? What I mean is, does cirrosis develop even while you are responding to the medication, or do you revert back to a state of acute hepatitis before you do? JEAN, your weight sounds very enviable! Perhaps you're worrying unnecessarily? Are you taking Prednisone? How much? It's the Prednisone, not the AIH, that causes weight gain. Many people never need a second biopsy; others have many. "It all depends." And, some biopsies are very painful; most are not. "It all depends." AIH is a progressive disease. It keeps on trucking along throughout our lives. However, the medication we take is intended its progress. Sometimes it is highly successful in doing that, sometimes less so. I hope you have one of the basic reference books (Palmer or Worman, for example), although they were written about five years ago. Harper From KAREN W: I have is probably a stupid question. How long after beginnning prednisone does the weight gain begin? What about the increase in appetite, round face, etc.? KAREN (AND JEAN), I'm not sure that everyone who takes Prednisone/Imuran has side effects. Some people in our group avoided weight gain. (My doctor told me she didn't think that would be possible for me and that trying would put too much stress on my body.) I imagine that the timing of side effects would depend in part on how high the dosage is. For me, I think the visible side effects (weight, moon face, acne, etc.) began within a couple of weeks, but I was taking 80 mg Prednisone, more than most people do. I believe I read somewhere that the side effects take a long time to display; I don't remember where I read that, but it was not true for me. Watch for hypertension, diabetes, glaucoma, cataracts, bone loss. Make sure you're tested for them and treated if necessary. harper TONY, I hope you realize what a great gift you are to us. I, and I think everyone in the group, think of you every single day, with gratitude, admiration, love, and high hopes. Harper
Guest guest
Dear Tony, It sounds like you took a blow - sometimes it feels like you just have to hunker down and pull things back together after that. I am so grateful that you have drs who care so much about you and let you be a part of the team - You are a positive force that will help open that door for other patients and doctors. The stars were beautiful last night as I thought of you. Take care, we care. Amy

We just washed them quickly, a few days worth at a time, and set them on a paper towel to dry. Sandy
Guest guest
I used to hold them under running water and start rubbing, and just as you get to the white, switch to wet/damp papertowels to rub the rest off. I didn't usually wash more than a day or two's worth, because after the dye is off, they're at risk of absorbing moisture, and then get hard to dissolve. Also - a tip in getting them down - if your kids can swallow pills, I wrapped a little margarine around them. Before that, I just dissolved it in about a 1 1/2 tsp really cold rice milk, draw it up into a stopper, and shoot it in their mouths w/ a yummy washer-downer ready. A white tic-tac afterward was nice sometimes, too. Good luck! --- Kakuske <pkakuske@...> wrote: > Any recommendations on the easiest way to remove the > blue dye from Valtrex tablets? > > > > > __________________________________________________
