About 6 years ago, (son then 9yo) we made an initial appt to Dr. Usman @ Pfeiffer Treatment Center. We had waited to meet her--had no idea whether it is a he or she. While there, I kept looking around for Usman--was informed the doctor was out and you don't really get to see the dr. The person I dealt with was a female(assumed a nurse, her badge read 'director') the whole time. She asked me to describe my son, she gave NO INPUT/FEEDBACK just notetaking as I speak. My son had blood drawn; I have to send out his stool and urine from home with the kit she provided. On the forms & clarified over the phone, it stated/they said the 1st visit will cost us $800, when we came out the door we had paid close to $1500 cash. Few days later, got a phone call from a female(not doc) that 'accdg to Usman' I have to purchased the so and so OTC suppl. Back then, I wasnt very careful

about the other ingredients, as long as let's say Mg I just buy it. That was the worse of the worse of my son's autism, we're at the end of the rope--very desperate. When he started taking these supplements, I noticed my son started ripping the whole house, stepping into things till it crash....wakes up angry @5:00 and goes to bed very angry and highly demanding, extremely bacame mega/super hyper(was never like this b4). I notified the office about what's going on and they said it should go away in two weeks--which never happened; so my calls turned into weekly and the person on the other line would always recommend additional suppls-- never really gave any explanation. Into the third month he's just getting far more worse and ugly. Then, got a phone call that it's time for the next appt. That was it---they prematurely opened for buss $$$$ what else? My son's newly developed bad bad nasty behavior

became permanent. I was traumatized, a memorable experience. Today, after so many years, probably she had notion what works and what doesn't SHAME Homeopthc helped a little. Im thinking of going to Dr. Mercola this summer. rhondamasengale wrote: I am thinking of taking my two boys there in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone else has been and what do you think? We use Pfeiffer also. It was very encouraging to hear that you know

some children who are nearly recovered using their protocol, because

I've a little doubtful lately. I think Pfeiffer was great for

getting us started down the biomedical path. However, I think a

majority of my son's issues revolve around his gut. They don't

really address that other than making sure he poops regularly (and

for this they recommend using Miralax:((((

Bottom line: I think your money would be better spent elsewhere if

you think the gut is an issue for your child.

On a side note, I just had my first consultation with another DAN!

today. While he agrees that the gut is a huge issue for my son, it

again wasn't the focus in the additional things he suggested for my

son's protocol. So, it seems to me that figuring out how to heal the

gut falls squarely on our (already exhausted) shoulders no matter

which doctor you pay.

I hope this helps.

In heartfelt gratitude,

Sherrin

I have a friend that's been on the Pfeiffer Protocol for about a year now with no real gains.  They haven't been able to move beyond a certain point and she has the same complaints about them that everyone else has.  No one to talk to *ever*.  Just messages being passed back and forth with no real explanation of anything.  She said she went there (we're in CA) and at that visit, she never saw the doc).Someone had mentioned something about PTC not being on the DAN list a couple days ago and I wanted to say that the reason they aren't on the list is because they aren't really using the DAN protocol.  They are using their own protocol which is heavily based on the zinc/copper ratio.Cheryl>The Pfeiffer is great if you have another biochemical imbalance butthey just arent that agressive with Autism. They believe thatsupplements will solve everything. This is why Dr. USman left. Thenew medical director is Dr. who is very kind and we had agood experience there, but they just had their ways and no realdeviation accpet to add more supps. I would see Dr. Norm Schwartz inNorthern Illinois instead.Elaine> I am thinking of taking my two boys there in a few weeks and was > wondering if anyone else has been and what do you think? Probably the most effective intervention you can do to deal with gut problems is a dietary intervention. GFCF, SCD, BED, low oxalate, etc. have all shown improvements in different kids. Try to assess what your child is craving and/or eating too much of. These may be the reactive foods, and if they replace one with something else, then suspect ingredients (ie dairy, wheat, etc.) My son is a total monster when he gets dairy and it messes up his bowels. He's a sweetheart when not eating dairy. Still can't get him past the major nonverbal issue though. Considering SCD myself for him.

Yeah, we have him on the SCD diet and is doing great! Even trying to

talk a little! BUt he is still having diarrhea. I think his gut is

trying to get rid of its pathogens, but I don't know! Thanks for the

info!
