Guest guest
Kristy, I use to take Celexa. I remember the first time that I took it like it was yesterday. I was told to start with 1/4 of a tablet and I did but in a matter of hours I felt my heart racing, I got really hot and I felt really claustrophobic. (we lived in Alaska and it was 40 below and I went outside to get air) I stood out there trying to catch my breath because I felt short winded and all of a sudden the nausea started and I got sick. Immediately I felt better. I got on the phone to call the doctor who prescribed it for me and I told him that it nearly killed me. He told me that I would be find and to continue taking it as directed. I did not believe him and I did not take it for about a month. Then he questioned me and I told him that I was not taking it. He told me that my initial reaction was not out of the ordinary but that I would be fine if I took it again. He was right. I began taking the Celexa and I took it until I got pregnant. Can you believe that I was taking it to reduce carbohydrate cravings and it worked. I lost 77 pounds while I was taking this medication of course I was also dieting and exercising but it really made a huge difference for me although the initial dose was really a bad experience and if i recall correctly he had me slowly come off of the Celexa not go cold turkey. Guest guest
Sheri, Celexa helps with carb cravings!!!!? I didn't know that. I'm glad to hear it because I just recently started taking it (for some unusual family stresses) and was worried about gaining weight. I've heard some SSRI's can cause weight gain. The first day I took it I felt horrible. Stomach ache and lots of yawning. After that I figured I'd start with half dosages and then ramp up after a week (hopefully that might help with the transition?). Thanks for sharing info about it! Any other side effects or problems? You can email me directly. I'd be interested in learning about any personal experiences with this medication. Thanks! On Aug 18, 2006, at 8:46 PM, Sheri wrote: > Kristy, I use to take Celexa. Guest guest
I would only suggest keeping an eye on liver function. I say this because while I was taking the Celexa the doctor changed my BP medication because I got pregnant. I told the doctor that I did not feel well. I began with the fact that I was tired all the time and then went on to tell him that I was exhausted, and moved up to lethargic I informed him that I was sleeping 20 hours a day and that I itched so badly that I thought I was going to cut myself. The doctor told me that it was due to my advanced age and being pregnant. LOL I was 35. Well as you may have expected my liver functions were completely out of whack. I became severely jaundice and was told that I was going to die in front of my 2 children who were 6 and 7. Since I am here writing to you I did not die but there were days that it may have been a good option. I later researched and found out that I probably had Methyldophia hepitoxisity because that is something that many people get from methyldophia but in the back of my mind I wonder if the Celexa already taxing my liver could have contributed to the problem. Today my liver function is completely normal and my son is now 5 and completely fine. I worried that he would have problems because of my problem during pregnancy. I can tell you that the signs that I had that I had liver dysfunction was that I was so tired, I slept a lot, I itched in strange places like the tops of my feet, backs of my knee's and my chest and eventually I had sores all over my body where the toxins were coming out and my urine turned brownish. So if you see these symptoms in your children call the doctor at once. Never had I experienced anything like that before and I hope that I never would again. Guest guest
I don't remember. I can tell you that I only took one pill. I can probably find out from the nurse at the doctor's office if you need a specific milligram. I do not know if they come in different strengths. Guest guest
Hi Sheri, I was just curious. My prescription is for 20mg, but I started reading about Celexa on the following website: http://www.askapatient.com/viewrating.asp?drug=20822 & name=CELEXA Since my anxiety isn't that bad, I'm thinking of cutting the pills in half so I'll be at 10mg.
