Guest guest
Hi Kristy, When my daughter was three (now sixteen) the exact same thing happened to her. After swimming in a pool on a cruise ship, we noticed that one of her ear plugs had fallen out and low and behold a week later she had a raging pseudomomas infection. Green drainage and red streaks running down her neck. She was hospitalized and placed IV antibiotics and taken to the OR to scrape the bone behind her ear and wash out the infection. She stayed in the hospital for nine days and then was sent home on antibiotics for a few more weeks. Sorry ,can't recall the meds. used, but it was a long time ago. I would take your son back to the hospital and ask to see an infectious disease specialist just in case. Take good care and I hope he's feeling better soon, >From: " Kristy Nardini " <krnardini@...> >Reply- >< > >Subject: Very sick little boy >Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2006 15:00:29 -0700 > >Hi, > >My 4 y.o. son is very sick, and I'm very scared. > >It started in mid-August with a cold, runny nose and coughing. Guest guest
I am so sorry you are going through this. I wish I had some advice for you. I remember when my son was 4. It seemed like one crisis after another. Now there are different crisis' but at least he is not so sick. We took him to the emergency room so many times at that age. I remember constantly doubting Dr. G then also. But thankfully we have stuck in here. My son had ear tubes put in last Dec. He is 9 years old and will be 10 in Jan. He started talking real loud again. I took him to the ENT and he said his right tube is missing. There was a lot of wax my son would not let him get out. He told me to put a few drops of mineral oil to keep the ear wax dissolved. I have also been using the old fashioned ear candles. They pull the wax out. I know this is not information for your situation right now. But maybe something for the future? I'm supposed to take him back to the ENT for them to decide whether to put another tube in there. I have been putting it off because I so dread for him to have another surgery. I'm hoping and praying your son will be well soon. Guest guest
, Thank you for your reply. That sounds sooooo scary!! Your poor daughter! Now I'm wondering if my lil' guy still has pseudomonas in his system? His ears are clear. Is an infectious disease specialist the only way to find out? Guest guest
Kristy, I am so sorrry your little guy is so sick. You need medical help and pound on those doors until you get it. Call Dr. G, your local ped or try a different ENT if the one you have isn't working. You need to find someone to help. My was so sickly until the tonsils and adnoids came out. I went ahead with the surgery even though Dr. G wanted me to wait to see if we could do without it. It was a long recovery but one of the best things we did to help . You are the one living this and sometimes you have to trust your gut and do what you think is best. also had tubes until he was ten. They have permanent ear tubes that screw in so you don't have to keep having the tube surgery. The down side is that when it is time for them to come out, it is another surgery. In addition, they have custom form fit ear plugs that don't fall out when swimming. Keep us posted. Marcia

Guest guest
Kristy, It's the best place to start. Since he had pseudomomas and still seems ill, it would be best to consult with a doctor who specializes in infectious diseases. Your little guy may need another antibiotic, you don't want to fool around with pseudomomas. My daughter has no memory of this, and her hearing is perfectly normal, thank God. I credit this to her Doctors aggressive approach to the infection. Take good care and let us know how you son does over the next week or so. >From: " Kristy Nardini " <krnardini@...> >Reply- >< > >Subject: RE: RE: Very sick little boy >Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2006 20:57:47 -0700 > >, > >Thank you for your reply. Guest guest
Thank you all for your support and wisdom. It's such a comfort to have your guidance and thoughts. He is actually doing better today (more language than he's had in weeks, good eye contact, calm, has some energy, ate a good b-fast, pretend playing with his twin sis - doctor, of all things!). It's still early, so I'm not getting too excited, yet ;-) All the best, Kristy Re: Very sick little boy Kristy, >> You are the one living this and sometimes you have to trust your gut and do what you think is best.<< Truer words have rarely been spoken, or written.
