what was your starting weight? Could this be the normal rebound we should

expect??

I do not exercise (never have), eat too much and specifically, eat too many

My high was 350#. Got down to 215 for about 20 minutes. Hovered

between 220 and 225 for about a year. Then started to slowly gain.

And NO, I do not think this should be expected. I know I have bad

habits and no willpower. It is definitely my fault.

Shirley, we have been discussing this very subject. Vicki and I had

just decided today that this rebound is normal. lol But, then again,

I don't exercise, either.

You are not the only one Shirley, so take comfort in that.

I too am from 2002 group and I have just rebounded 6 pounds this month.

I am also terrible at dieting and exercise.

Hugs to you...

My DS was in December of 2000 (you can do the math). I lost from 380 to

160. A few times I went down to 157/158 or so. For a few years I stayed in the

160 range, usually averaging at 164. In the last two months, however I have

rocketed up and got as high as 182, which really scared the heck out of me. I

was also having tummy and bathroom problems. I can track the causes very

precisely.

1. I almost never exercise.

2. I quit my job, so the walking back and forth there (could be quite a lot

on weekends) was now gone.

3. Moving and looking for a new job causes stress.

4. Because of stress I eat crappy comfort food and eat too much (not at

once, but over the day).

5. I have been drinking less water and more soda.

Man!

When I realized what I had been doing to myself I gave a little backward

kick to my own hind end and started to move back into my healthier habits.

1. I didn't buy any more soda, and have only had one in the last week, total.

2. I made it a point to drink more water.

3. I cut out some of the nibbling and try to make the snacking more healthy

(yogurt, apple or tomato, instead of toast, cereal or other such stuff).

I have already lost a few pounds in the last 10 days. I am still quite

lazy, so have not really exercised, but I WILL do it.

It is totally my fault, I realize. But, I am not being to hard on myself.

Crap happens, you feel bad and revert to old habits. I realized it and am

working on getting back on track. Just a month of bad eating has sure made the

junk food cravings come back, tho!!

Im not quite 3 years out and have already rebounded 10 pounds that I am trying

to take off. If I rebound again at 4 years, im gonna freak.........lol. I agree

it should be talked about here. This is an issue for DS patients and we have

been together for a while so why branch off? My lowest was 159 and I am back up

to 169-170. My goal is around 160. Not too far away but I dont want to gain

anymore. Once we are smaller, 10 pounds can make a difference.

It is obvious that regain is an issue to many of us. I think we

should continue discussing, venting, etc. I agree with Marta about

not splitting into another group. This info is as important to the

newbies as it is to us. They need to know what is " normal " . Maybe I

would have done things different if I knew more about rebound. Or,

was it because I wasn't listening?

Several things keep recurring when talking about rebound weight.

Rebound occurs around 4 years - give or take 6 months.

Rebound weight is 10-20 pounds from lowest point.

Many of us are too busy to exercise.

Sweets begin a vicious cycle of over eating and many of us can

not " diet " any more.

The one solution I have heard was increase protein.

Do I have that about right?

? What are people's water intake at this point in time?

? What are people's soda intake at this point in time?

? Why, when so many other things are 125% better after WLS do we

focus on the one number on the scale instead of all the health and

quality of life benefits?

We need to re record the message in our heads to say - Look what I

have done! I am awesome! I am healthy! My life is SO MUCH BETTER!

Just my 2 cents.

I agree with everyone, that it's hard to diet again. I had my ds 4 1/2

yrs ago. My lowest was #132 lbs. for a couple of days. Now I seem to

hover at #140-145 lbs, I would like to be 125 lbs. Although Dr. K is

happy with my weight. Everyone tells me, I would look too thin, I guess

we just get a number stuck in our heads of what we should be, and yeah

before when I was so heavy gaining 10 or 20 lbs. didn't matter,I was

already big, before ds when I dieted, people couldn't even tell I'd

lost weight and it's such a struggle. Heck, I could lose that taking a

good dump...well not 20 lbs., but maybe 10 lbs. LOL! But now regaining

after being thin for a few years and having thrown all my fat clothes

away, it's scary to see the scale go up 5 lbs. So I guess alot of us,

are having the same regain. Good luck with yours....Annie

, I agree. I quit my job last year and the stress of not having

a new job lined up made me gain twenty pounds. Now I am not walking as

much. I also started drinking some soda. Not daily, but some. I am

also on a pickle binge. Sweet, dill, eggs, you name it and I am eating

it.

I am eye-balling that eliptical trainer...

  • 3 months later...

OK folks, that's it for me! I weighed in at 161.5 this morning. Please

pray for me on the diet I started today. Nobody can do it for me... but

my clothes are all too tight and I'm looking forward to a trip back east

in December... near goal weight. They better clear up this Ecoli stuff,

'cuz all I see in my near future is salad, salad, salad!!!

I hear ya Bobbe. I have been working since end of January on

dealing with my regain. I still weigh more then I did, but I have

lost 16 lbs -- all of which I attribute to working out 3-4 times a

week and cutting back on sugar. I think I look better now though,

because I know that I have also replaced fat with lean muscle.

I think the hardest thing for me to adapt to was realizing that losing

weight was not going to be as fast as it was in my DS window. But

just because it wasn't fast, didn't mean it wasn't going in the right

direction ya know? In fact, I am now kicking myself because I think

that I actually had a bigger window then I thought. But I was so

focused on the fact it wasn't happening fast, I just wrongly assumed

it wasn't happening. It wasn't a light switch. Anyway -- Recently

I had to really focus on the fact that now it was going to be SLOW.

A couple lbs a month tops. And that is ok. That is now what normal

is for me. The days of losing 10 lbs a month are OVER.

Good luck on your quest.

Hugs,

Super Congrats on losing those 16 pounds! Super Congrats on

exercising! However, I'm most impressed with your insight.

Weightloss is indeed going to be slow. 2 pounds a month is a

wonderful rate of loss when your semi-close to what is a good weight

for you. If...IF...IF...those who are still in their weightloss

window will realize that they can extend their weightloss much further

by exercise and making good food choices those 2 pounds a month will

add up. I admire your progress!!!
