The thinly veiled attempt at placating the guilty in this letter is insulting to the ASA membership, and to ASA's founder, Dr. Bernard Rimland. Maximizing the potential of individuals with autism is important-but so is autism prevention. In my mind, the first step in prevention is a frank admission that some children should never be vaccinated, and that we need to understand who those children are before they ever get a single shot. This court case is a first step in that direction. Bernie tried to create the "thoughtful dialogue" mentioned in that letter for over 40 years, with limited results. Parents are still being told every single day that vaccinations are universally safe. To parents like me who know that their children were seriously injured by a vaccine, that is totally unacceptable. The Polings have sent a message that will resonate throughout the medical world. Drug companies are no longer safe behind a

wall of obfuscation and congressional lobbying. Perhaps this court case will accomplish what "thoughtful dialogue" could not. Handley wrote: Ditto, that sucks. Thoughtful dialogue!? It seems to me that "thoughtful dialogue" regarding vaccines between parents and medical professions is not enough. We needed thoughtful warnings, thoughtful statistics, and thoughtful facts.
