Mail-back sharps disposal – what it is and how it works:

Mail-back sharps disposal provides a cost-effective solution for disposal of needles, syringes, and lancets; as well as other types of sharps and small quantities of medical waste. It is a safe and easy alternative to large-volume pickup services.

The system is shipped to you; where you fill, package, and mail it back to us for proper disposal. Each of our systems include:

Sharps container(s)

USPS approved return box

Protective bag liner

Bar code tracking

Destruction manifest for Regulated Medical Waste – Sharps

Price includes shipping, return mail, destruction and manifest confirmation of destruction.

When container is full, sharps container is placed in the pre-paid postage return box, and returned via US Mail to GRP for destruction

Stericycle offers also the mail option for 50-70$ per container 2-3 gal. There is a 2 containers minimum in 2 years.Maybe some of you can use the information, I did not know until recently.

I take my sharps and any bio hazards to the hospital There is a very small amnt You might call the hospital's dept that does this and ask themIt is something my hospital does for all the littel docs around here You fill o ut a form saying that you are the one bringing over this needle box etc and they take care of it

One less thing for me to do or pay for Like autoclaving they do that for me too The trick is you do not ask hospital administration You ask the dept that does the work I get IT this way also.I am very careful to acknowledge anything people do for me with chocolate and thank yous(the sterilizing dept told me that I was the only one who gave them a holiday present this year), and none of it is prohibited by the hospital

it is just that the suits would not know what to do with you if you asked.Another guy in town has the hospital operator work taking his calls and paging him.I can't see that these services cost the hospital but pennies and ,as it head of IT here- an RN- says , look we are all just taking care of people.

Worth looking into.

Good point, Jean.

The problem with our hospital is they are under the -- well, if we do it for you, we'd have to do it for EVERYONE in town.

But that may be because we asked the suits and not the department head.
