I have an HP officejet Pro L7650 that I bought at costco. An all in one. I love it. No clue what paperport is. Sometimes you have to put your finger on the stack just to make sure the feeder doesn't suck up 2 sheets at a time. Cost $500? 2 years ago. Worth it. Before that had an HP 3015? multifunction, horrifically buggy software - perhaps because I had a wireless adapter on it - spent hours with tech support. Glad I moved to the network ready Brother ( the network part is the 'N'

of the DN). Am using concurrently the USB port to the always on computer (and thus receiving fax to PC) and the network fax/printer capabilities (with laptop in the other room, fax a lot, print sometimes). Worry a little about losing a piece and losing all function, but at this point I think I would just run out to Staples and buy another one, or maybe move to Onebox with just a scanner. Hasn't happened yet with either of the AIOs. It has a network port, and the Brother software allows scanning and printing over the network. It comes with Paper Port, drivers for Vista, Macs, W2K, XP, and Linux. Scanning text is very fast. The network fax driver works fine, too.

I paid $299.00 less a $100.00 rebate = $199.00. Shipping was free. I am delighted with this machine. The only thing it doesn't have that I would like is automatic duplex printing and scanning (so we would not have to turn over pages to scan or print on both sides), but machines with those capabilities cost two to three times that much. The other device I have been using recently, and I wish I had purchased it at the beginning, is a DocketPORT 685 card scanner. This cost more than the Brother MFC, but it is worth every penny to me. It is a USB card

scanner that does automatic duplex scans of driver's licenses, insurance cards, and credit cards. It takes less than 3 seconds a card, runs in the background, and has superb resolution. It will output in PDF or most any other format. It makes check-in for patients much more efficient, and I don't have to fiddle with the images to import them into my EMR. A tremendous time saver. dts From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of EadsSent: Sunday, February 17, 2008 10:16 AMTo: Subject: RE: all-in-one machines , I see the Brother MFC 8220 auto-feeds up to 30 pages – how reliable is it (how often does it miss a page, or get a paper jam)? medly Please cnsider the Brother MFC 8220. It copies, scans, faxes, for about $300. It is the most useful tool in my office. Malar Anbarasan <mals10675> wrote: Hi i am also starting a new practice. Paperport is a document holding program, can accept import and export, convert to pdf format; I don't need adobe acrobat to run it at all.

I have been using the predecesor, a Brother 6720DN (Ithink that is the model), and have been happy with it. It does about the same as describes. No trouble with the stack feeder.

Paperport

is a document organizer. It is a space to view thumbnails of all scanned documents;

to organize them visually; to change file type (tif, jpg, bmp, pdf) .

The “pro” version has a couple

of neat features: you can complete scanned forms by typing in the spaces; and

can create pdf files.

We have used it (paperport 8) mainly as storage

/ archiving scanned forms for DOT physicals, our superbills, immunization

forms, etc etc.

It usually integrates very well with

scanners so is often bundled with them.

We scan right into Alteer for all pt

specific forms / results etc. so we only use Paperport for generic / standard

things.

Potentially you could scan every piece of

paper at home or office into Paperport and shred bill, bank statement and

receipt you ever got.

Just be sure you do as Larry says and “back

up your back up”

i am a big fan of the fujitsu scansnap, the little black one, about $368, comes

i have a question about paperport. exactly what is it?
