I wish to announce that I finally had my labs drawn, four months late.

That is what happens when I change insurance plans and freak out! The

guy who drew them was a sweet dream! Not even a bruise, I am so

shocked! I don't blame them when I bruise since I thin my blood so

much, but still...

The draw station is next to the liquor store in Delano! lol

I guess I get the boobie prize...Mine was due in Dec......ooooopsie! Anyway,

Mine was way bad....So many reasons for labs. Dr. K's folk's outlined the

reasons at the meeting people So get those labs done for them. It helps them get

the DS approved for others. I WILL get mine in Dec when due again.

Marta, or Jo can you help me with understanding the labs?

I got caught up with my visit with Doc K yesterday, talking about

other things, and forgot to ask what each of those terms and numbers

meant,! what is the protime?

My hemoglobin was 13.2 range is 13.5 - 17.5

my hematocrit was 40.2 range is 41.0 - 53.0

my calcium was 8.7 mg range is 8.4 - 10.2

Dr K said it was all good, but I just forgot to ask !

Thanks

Steve,

Protime is related to vit K. The reason it is listed as " low " is

because we normally order it to evaluate how effective warfarin is in

anticoaging your blood. Since you are not on warfarin, your number is

probably normal, which to the lab is " low " . INR is the same thing

using different units of measurement. 1.0 is normal, but to the lab

2.0 to 3.0 would be " normal " for certain medical conditions requiring

anticoagulation.

Sorry, probably TMI.

Your hemoglobin and hematocrit go together. One is the absolute

measurement and one is the percent (of hemoglobin in whole blood).

Yours is insignificantly low for a man.

Your calcium sounds good. Listen to Dr.K. Don't worry.

A link you might find useful so you don't have to depend and wait on

us, go to www.labtestsonline.org for information about many lab

tests. The link is also on the group website in our links section.
