Guest guest
, Before my surgery I had acid reflux really bad. After the surgery I hardly ever get acid at all. Dr. K told me that he took out the part of the stomach that makes all the acid. I am guessing that eventually acid is able to form again when the stomach stretches out more but still, I hardly get acid indegestion at all. Hope this helps. --- Calderon wrote: > I'am new to the group and I'am considering the > surgery. > I'am curious if having the surgery has fixed acid > reflux for anybody. > Please let me know, > Thank you, > > > > --------------------------------- > Talk is cheap. Guest guest
thats correct. Dr Z told me that too, but he told me I still have it because I have a faulty valve. See?? Not weight related in my case. For most people who had this surgery, it fixed the problem. VIcki Soar wrote: , Before my surgery I had acid reflux really bad. Guest guest
: Welcome to our little DS land! For many people simply losing weight can greatly help acid reflux. Being more DS specific...Approximately for the first month after the DS you will be on something to stop the stomach acids...like prilosec or you will just continue what your probably taking now. What most people find after that first month is...you have lost weight, which by itself helps, and your tummy doesn't produce stomach acids at the same levels as before. Specific to Me: I had acid reflux pretty darn bad. Throat ALWAYS raw from nightly acids finding it's way into my mouth during sleep (even on meds). After one month of surgery I didn't need any heartburn meds at all for the first 3 years. Now, on occasion, I have heartburn usually only when I eat LATE at night and lay down, duh! In other words, normal levels of self induced heartburn. I am currently 5 years post op. Hugs Jo
Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group !! For me, acid reflux was a problem before surgery, but I am 18 months post op, and I have not had a single episode of it yet. It has been something I keep expecting to see again, but I guess its just another one of the miracles of this surgery, along with the end of Type 2 Diabetes, and Hypertension, which are gone from my life. I had my 18 month checkup yesterday, and Dr K told me everything was perfect, which is something I'm still getting used to hearing when discribing my health,,, all my labs were great, my Cholesterol was low, I asked the Doc if I should be concerned that some levels were low, below range, he told me all of my low levels, were the " lower the better " stuff, yahoo !! and I will never forget that I would never have heard about this procedure if not for my Pal, Sharon in Onyx,Ca again welcome maria ! Guest guest
I had been diagnosed with and was being treated for a hietal hernia. Initially after the DS I still suffered with it and was given no meds. Went back on meds for a couple of months and no more problems! Just one of the many reasons we consider this a " miracle surgery " ! Ask all the questions you want; you'll get a variety of answers. But everybody will tell you they'd have this surgery again in a flash!!! Bobbe in Paso Robles. 5th grade thru college = 152. 5/98 retired at 285 & 24/3X. 3/03 DS from 268 & a 24 down to 137 & 14.
