Guest guest
ok, i cannot believe this; this is not a joke, i repeat, NOT a joke, unless someone is playing it on ME--my assistant got a call today, from some doctor, who wanted to talk with me, and left his cell #.i called him this evening, and spoke with him.he said that he was from one of the catholic health organizations, and was happy to find out that i believed in natural family planning, and did not prescribe any contraceptive methods or medications, and that it was difficult to find such doctors.i stated that he was incorrect, and that i did not know any doctors who were not open to all methods of birth control and prescribed same.i also stated that natural family planning begged the question, "how many children do you have?"he said that he had three sons.he said that he must have gotten his information wrong, apologized and hung up.i have since checked the web, and i am listed on at least two pro-life web sites.i received some catholic pro-life literature a few months ago, and that seems to jive with at least one of these web sites. i had called that publication, and the person i spoke with did not know how i got on the list, or how to take me off, and did not have me on their list.hmmm...so whaddaya recommend?i think some "enforcement" is in order here.LLLps-- my name was incorrectly spelled, with an "s". Guest guest
There are certainly physicians who do not prescribe any birth control except “NFP”. I do not know any personally, but I have a friend who worked for a catholic hospital-owned out patient facility and it was their policy that they would not prescribe. All providers (regardless of religious affiliation) were held to this standard. This can be a source of much consternation and debate among Catholic physicians whose faith calls them to certain standards. So, it is certainly not a “joke” BUT I have NO idea how your name would have been placed on a list. Maybe there is another physician with similar name that should be on the list instead? (Maybe an ob/gyn in the area?) As a practicing Catholic family physician one must come to terms with duty to patients, church teaching, good for society in general, and personal ethical standards. For many of us it is not an easy decision to make, and for others there is no question that they “should” or “should not” prescribe birth control. Ramona G. Guest guest
It is actually quite common here in South Texas. We have a contract to see Medical Students because they were having difficulty finding a primary care physician who would prescribe birth control...to medical students. I thought it was shocking, but it is consistent with this place. Maybe if you contact planned parenthood or your state medical association's legal departments, they could make some suggestions. I am sure this isn't the first time they have encountered something like this.RGMS wrote: There are certainly physicians who do not prescribe any birth control except “NFP”.
