I charge $500/hr including all travel time as well as prep time. The public defender's office here in town hasn't blinked an eye. They asked me how I set my fee. I replied " High enough so that I'm not called often, but low enough that I can be avaliable to my patients if I'm needed. "

Funny you should mention the dark side, I was just watching the end of Star Wars, episode 3 last night...... I don't know, a public defenders office works pretty hard for folks who are in difficult positions and need help. Everything will have some " dark side " (yin-yang thing), and, as I said in last post, such work would cause me some stress, but the work might help some counsels do a better job defending folks in our legal system. There's some good in that I imagine.

And, our legal system, though very, very imperfect, is part of what makes this an awesome country. I'd say consider the work carefully, but don't close your mind to it.Tim
