Guest guest
WOW! I think I am going to faint! Someone actually paid for a virtual visit for sinusitis!!! I cannot believe I am going to get paid for what I usually have (grudgingly) done for free! Whoopee! Thanks for the encouragement Kris! Here is the email template that I sent to her ( a few days ago, I did not get an answer, I thought maybe she went to a walk- in instead:) Maybe I should also try to sneakily bill the VV code and see what her insurance says.I have a new process that I'm using for people that want me to prescribe over the phone or email, or who need a follow up appointment but just cannot physically get in. It's called a virtual visit and it's available via my website:nkfp.familydoctors.net (click on blue virtual visit link towards the bottom of the page)or directly from my virtual visit page:drlynnho.netIt's about the same cost as an office visit but is more convenient for you (as you don't have to come in); it doesn't make me work for free, and as well decreases my malpractice risk by running a standard platform for the exchange of medical information. You can either try it, or come in and see me, as you prefer. Thanks! This is when policies were more liberal as to what constituted, “inability to perform primary job function” Meaning if you disability prevented you from being a doctor, you got paid. Now polices often are written, “well, you can’t be a doctor, but you can have a different job, so that is an excuse not to pay you” Specifically this what is called the “Regular Occupation” rider. My own policy was based on “highest of 2 of past 5 years of salary averaged” How much do you think a “home-maker” salary is worth? $0! I had to drop the policy, cause my salary is $0. As far as I know, there are no disability policies for home makers. L How much would it cost to replace your IMP homemaker/back office spouse? $30k/year? Good luck. Insurance industry offers no protection. Dr. ’s policy is with Mass Mutual. There are so many options, based on personal situation, it can be tough to make rider recommendations. Our Policy works like this: 90 day waiting period, premiums waived while disabled Earned income includes schedule C/K income <- very important Contingent Monthly Income Rider (workers comp and social security pay, instead of policy) Additional monthly income rider Regular Occupation Rider ßvery important! Presumptive Disability Rider (presumed disable if eye, ears, hands, fee, speech loss) Felony Exclusion (will not pay, while in jail) Recovery Benefit (you get paid some money after you are no longer disabled) I believe a disability policy is one of the more complex contracts you will ever sign. Since we have not tried to collect, I can not say how good Mass Mutual is. They are very good at taking our money which is increasing this year past $170/month. There are so many variables as to what it would pay out. I am guessing a payout is worth $3k a month or so now. -tom From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Evan Hirsch Sent: Wednesday, February 20, 2008 7:10 PM To: IMP listserve Subject: disability insurance does anyone have this? and if so, how much should I cover myself for and do you have any companies/carriers that you recommend? thanks.
