Guest guest
I am 17 years old and have Asperger's syndrome, along with depression and anxiety. I have a problem. I get lots of breakdowns, where I just start crying in public without knowing why, and I don't know how to control them. I am now not part of a performing group I enjoyed because of them. Could you please tell me what I can do about it? By the way, I take Lexapro, which seemed to be helping for a few months but not anymore. Thank you, -Kat
Guest guest
Kat, I'm sorry you don't feel well. My son is only 4, and cannot tell me much (yet) about how he feels. We use Dr. Goldberg's protocol with him, and he is on a low-dose of Paxil. Diet is very, very, very important. My son cannot tolerate casein (milk protein), soy, gluten (wheat/grain protein), corn, preservatives/nitrates, food dyes or refined sugar (and I cannot tolerate these last things without it affecting my mood adversely - as a teen I was consuming a lot of diet sodas and they were HORRIBLE for my moods). I would start there if you have not already experimented with your diet. Exercise, for me, is a NECESSITY, so if you're not getting regular exercise I would also make sure you do. Lastly, for me, it's important to connect with others. I have my spirituality and I seek like-minded friends to spend my " free " time (not much with 4 y.o. twins, working on my MBA and also a business-owner), but I usually combine my exercise with my friends and that works well for me. Finally, not all SSRIs are created equally, and you may need to experiment with some and also their doses, but it's important to work with a knowledable doctor on this. Not all doctors are knowledgeable and will prescribe one SSRI at full dose and it might not help or it might even make you feel worse. Do you think your hormones are ok? A lot of my mood issues are related to my hormones, and I've had to take birth control pills and get vitamin B12 injections (kind of an old-fashioned approach that 'newer' doctors don't do, but they work GREAT for me) to help regulate them (but your needs may be different). Have you thought about trying a naturopath or a homeopath? Hang in there! There is NO NEED to feel awful, but it may take a bit of investigation and some work on your part to get there. IMO, there are no magical pills. Kristy Stopping breakdowns I am 17 years old and have Asperger's syndrome, along with depression and anxiety. I have a problem. Guest guest
Hi Kat, It is possible that you're on the wrong medication or that it's currently at an incorrect dosage level for you. You probably would want to call your prescribing doctor and tell him/her what's going on--they may be able to adjust the meds to be a more effective dose for you.
