Guest guest
Hi Gayle, My son is 9 and he also has pandas. It is actually the most difficult disorder i have ever dealt with. It has made the autism look not nearly as bad. Everytime Jake's symptoms appear, his ASO and DNASE strep titers confirm the horrific behaviors that we observe. He has also been diagnosed with PITANDS he meets all criteria for both. This last Pandas attack started in January and is still lingering. Zithromax and penicillin vk have helped in the past and this time they did not. I have been beside myself trying to help calm his overactive immune system. I just started omnicef RX and it might be helping. He seems better today more like himself and happier. I too am on the DAN protocol. Jake is gfcf no yeasty foods. We had started diflucan but his pandas symptoms were so bad that I thought the diflucan was making it worse and just kept jake on the antibiotics and probiotics along with zinc. i am very interested to hear what has helped your son on the protocol. It breaks my heart to see him so out of control because of virus and infection that his brain reacts to. I don't know of any one that has a pandas child that can relate to what we deal with. Any help/ support is greatly appreciated. Vicki gowens_lmt wrote: My son (14) has PANDAS, but showed no improvement on antibiotic therapy. Since then we've observed much of the DAN! protocol and have had huge success. His doc and an herbologist agree that there may be a strep lying dormant in him (possibly kidney or nasal cavity) that spins out of control when his immune system is otherwise compromised. Both PANDAS episodes followed 5 days after a 24 hr stomach bug. He's NEVER (in his entire life) been diagnosed with strep throat, but has titers that are through the roof. It's possible that he'd respond better to abx therapy now because his gut and overall health are so greatly improved but we're going the antiviral route as soon as school is out because we believe he's a PITAND kid as well as PANDAS. It's more than a coincidence that both PANDAS episodes (high strep titers, horrid ocd & tics) came directly on the heels of a viral infection..not a symptomatic strep infection. If there's a PANDAS diagnosis, don't become disheartened if they don't respond to abx, there are other options that really help.Gayle Thank you. I think this is worth looking into for my kids. > > > > -------------- Original message -------------- > From: ratlenhum@... > We did a test called a PANDAS Profile through NeuroScience Labs. I have a young relative that has OCD and is always coming down with strep. When his mom asked about a possible connection, the doctor dismissed it. My ASD daughter has OCD tendencies and is very impulsive. My kids had strep four times in less than twelve months starting at right before they turned two. I was just wondering how they test for PANDAS...and is it expensive? Thanks.> > > > > > > ---------------------------------> It's Tax Time!
