Guest guest
Eileen, My son's die-off with the antifungals has been intense, too (but he's only 4, so no tearing out banisters). I have heard that activated charcoal can be very helpful. I would also contact the doctor, ASAP. Hang in there! Kristy Die Off Nizoral Hi All...sorry tough couple days and no relief in sight...Nizoral he has been on 1/2 tab for 2 wks and full tab 2 days...last night he ripped the banister post out of the floor and flung it down the stairs after destroying the walls upstairs with it....i locked myself and daughter in the car....this is a very serious situation...he is 22 and dangerous...my husband has had it with all this.... I want some kind of sedative for him to get thru this....he is on plenty of meds right now...i need something to knock him out because i am afraid of him now... Guest guest
Eileen, You can't continue to put yourself and your family in harm's way... I am afraid for you. Please be aggressive today about getting the situation dealt with. I don't know what should be done but this can't go on. It is not even in your son's best interest... if he harmed you who could look out for him? Please get on the phone and call the office this morning as soon as they open. I'm going to worry about you all day. The only things I can think of are sedation or hospitalization until things settle down but maybe there is another way. Guest guest
Eileen, I had a friend whose son was in a very similar state. She took him to the ER at the local hospital. They sedated him until he could be transported to a hospital where he could be put in a " psych hold " for his own protection until they could get the situation stabilized. If he is too dangerous to transport, call an ambulance. And make sure Dr. G understands the full seriousness of the behaviors. Keep us posted...I'll be praying, Heidi --------- Die Off Nizoral > > Hi All...sorry tough couple days and no relief in sight...Nizoral he > has been on 1/2 tab for 2 wks and full tab 2 days...last night he > ripped the banister post out of the floor and flung it down the stairs > after destroying the walls upstairs with it....i locked myself and > daughter in the car....this is a very serious situation...he is 22 and > dangerous...my husband has had it with all this.... > > I want some kind of sedative for him to get thru this....he is on > plenty of meds right now...i need something to knock him out because i > am afraid of him now... > > Eileen
Guest guest
Was this due to die off? and if so did they keep him until the die off passed? Guest guest
Hey Eileen - Have you notified the doctor's office re this? Is it getting steadily worse? If so, and you've reached your two week mark, then while it IS possible that it's die-off, I'm betting it is not ... not if it's worsening (yes, sometimes it does worsen in other's experience). Nizoral has an effect on testosterone. This can be good for some kids, but it could be part of your son's problem, I simply don't know. He could also be reacting to the med itself or something in it. Does he appear to be experiencing any pain in his stomach area? Does he press in anywhere just under his rib-cage? I have a very inflammatory (and excruciating) reaction to Nizoral in my stomach - I believe it's gastritis, and it's very painful. If this were happening, it could conceivably set off violence in someone who doesn't understand or respond to pain the same way. That's not very likely, I suppose, but since I experienced it, I'll put it out there. If there's any doubt, a small amount (like 1/4 to 1/2 tsp) of dye-free liquid Benedryl would bring some improvement w/in 30 minutes. Normally you would ride out possible die-off for some time to be sure, but it sounds like you have every reason to beg for a change... Guest guest
At the time, no one really knew what was going on. (This is not a patient). They thought that maybe he wasn't on the right combo. of meds, but after more than one 2-week hospital stay to stabilize him, things would always return for the worst. Finally, another doctor discovered that he had MASSIVE seizure activity going on. He is currently having new and apparently correct meds titrating toward the correct dosage, and he's doing much better. Interesting sidenote: my own son, who is now 14, had very violent, aggressive behaviors (i.e. kicking his way through locked doors, etc.). When we started with Dr. G I was absolutely desperate to find some way just to make life livable again. Although my son was never officially dx'ed with seizures, looking back I believe he very well could've had seizure activity, but since being addressed with antivirals, etc. thru Dr. G, the old aggressive nature is gone. I believe there must have been viral activity affecting the brain and causing seizures. (My son would " lock on " to someone with his eyes for 1-2 secs., then immediately attack them; afterward, he would sit there with a confused look on his face, as if he had no idea what had just happened--hence my feeling there was seizure activity involved). As far as how long they'd keep him, it depends. It might depend on your insurance, but they shouldn't dismiss him if he's still an unmanageable danger. Feel free to email me offline if you have more questions...
