Guest guest
I recently turned back on the Flash player demo of my tkFP EMR. The link is: http://alcald.homelinux.org/TkfpDemo.html It should stay up most of the time, but the server is an old K6-2 AMD on a DSL line, so it might not handle too many simultaineous viewers. Past experience with lack of enthusiasm on the part of potential users indicates that won't likely be much of a problem :-) I was sort of flabbergasted that my age in the demographics section in the demo is 57 and I'm turning 60 in Sept. It seems like I just made this demo movie yesterday. I'm using tkFP in my office, and Kathy Broman and her partner are using it in Mason City, Iowa. Jerry Park has also used it some in an Urgent Care setting. It can do billing with MDOn-line or OfficeAlly and is Free software. If you want to try out a running demo, you can download a version that runs inside a " Virtual PC " . It uses a cool system called Moka5 that is based on Vmwareplayer and allows you to run a " Virtual PC " , inside of Windows as a sort of " Guest OS " . The whole Linux operating system and the program run inside a special Window under Windows. You need a fast processor and at least 512 and preferably 1gb of RAM. You do have to register for free with moka5's site to download it. It is very easy to install and the whole program is set up and ready to run. Graham Chiu also has a moka5 demo of his Synapse EMR on the same site. http://lab.mokafive.com/LivepcEditView/tkFP_EMR_on_Grafpup_lab http://www.moka5.com
Guest guest
I forgot to mention that moka5 also has a version that allows you to run virtual PCs, or as moka5 calls them: " Live PCs " , on a MAC. It has to be a recent INTEL based MAC, I think. I have not tested it myself, but theoretically it should allow you to run the Linux based " Live PC " on a MAC. If anybody that has such a MAC tries it, I'd be very interested in knowing how it works, as the MAC is Kathy Broman's operating system of choice, and I'm trying to support her and her partner's office. Thanks. > > I recently turned back on the Flash player demo of my tkFP EMR. > > The link is: > > http://alcald.homelinux.org/TkfpDemo.html > > It should stay up most of the time, but the server is an old > K6-2 AMD on a DSL line, so it might not handle too many > simultaineous viewers. You could use them for that purpose if you wish. One of the neat things is that you can close down the LivePC window suspending the LivePC and then resume where you left off the next day .... eg. in the middle of typing a letter or whatever. -- Graham Chiu http://www.synapsedirect.com Synapse - the use from anywhere EMR. Guest guest
-I registered to download the version on my Mac and let you know how it runs, but Moka5 requires VMware fusion software. I already use Parallels so wouldn't add that software. Basically, that means that I'd be running a virtual linux machine on top of a virtual PC, a painful thought. . .Is Kathy just using a PC to run it now?I forgot to mention that moka5 also has a version that allowsyou to run virtual PCs, or as moka5 calls them: "Live PCs", on a MAC. Guest guest
Graham, Would there be any limitation as to the size the database can grow to, since it has a " virtual filesystem " that runs in RAM and thus would be limited by how much RAM you have alloted to the Live PC? Or have you set up the Synapse Live PC so as to use the native filesystem to allow the database to grow larger than the amount of RAM available? BTW, I tried the Synapse Live PC and it ran out of the box quite easily. > > > > it. It is very easy to install and the whole program is set up and > > ready to run. Guest guest
, Thanks! I didn't realize you had to install VMWare Fusion separately. I've not tried any of this MAC related stuff with it, since I don't have access to a MAC. I got the impression that you'd be running the Live PC using a version of Moka5 that is based on Vmware for the MAC, so that it wouldn't be like you would need to run a Windows virtual PC inside the Mac, and then run another virtual PC inside the Windows Virtual PC - that does seem kind of weird! But that's the kind of questions I am interested in finding out. Kathy has not used this new Moka5 thing yet. Her MAC is a G4 laptop running the Motorola processor, so I don't think this will work on it. She is running her main server on Linux. But she uses an older open source way of running tkFP inside a Virtual PC on Windows called " coLinux " , which does basically the same thing as this newer Moka5 idea, but is much harder to install and set up, and has a few lingering bugs or quirks compared to Moka5. I plan on changing her Windows PCs over to use the Moka5 version. She likes having the Windows PCs in addition to only using Linux, as her hospital requires her to use Internet Explorer to log into their web site where she gets her lab results and some other things. Apparantly they don't like Firefox, Netscape or Mozilla. > > > > > > I recently turned back on the Flash player demo of my tkFP EMR. > > > > > > The link is: > > > > > > http://alcald.homelinux.org/TkfpDemo.html > > > > > > It should stay up most of the time, but the server is an old > > > K6-2 AMD on a DSL line, so it might not handle too many > > > simultaineous viewers. The Synapse LivePC has 20Gb allocated to the system and 10Gb for user data .. which is plenty. But on the LivePC creator you can change this by adding new virtual drives. -- Graham Chiu http://www.synapsedirect.com Synapse - the use from anywhere EMR.
