Guest guest
Donna: I am going to throw my 2cents in here. With one of my kids we've had alot of foul balls on SSRI's. I suspect its the Prozac. You describe the incremental so-so improvements....I suspect Prozac has not been a great med for . Then you had the increase....it takes some of our kids a long time for increases to settle in. The anxiety and panic attacks tell me the Prozac is a dud. Its like the med is not that great, but when it gets increased to a certain point, its a tipping point and all the wrong switches start getting activated. I saw the same thing with Prozac on my guy. We switched off to alot of different meds but settled in on Zoloft. But like anything else each person's body chemistry is different. But it sounds like to me you need to dump the Prozac. Go back to what you had before if you were okay with it, or try something you have not had. There are alot of choices, zoloft, paxil, effexor, celexa. Like I said Prozac was a bomb, we tried Celexa after Prozac but that was not any good either. Paxil was okay until we passed a certain dosing amt then it was very, very bad. Zoloft seems to be a good fit. princesspeach <donnaaron@...> wrote: Hi guys, has taken a turn for the worse in the last 24 hours and we don't understand why. He has been on prozac for a total of about 6 weeks, with an increase about three weeks ago. After the adjustment, he had been making slow, but noticable, incremental improvements every day until last night (Tuesday), when he started to seem a bit anxious; pacing, circling around and around the table, etc. Today, he is very, very anxious -- almost in a state of what I would describe as panic, unless he is playing his Sonic the Hedgehog video games -- and is furiously chewing up his lips and the skin around them so that they are very red and sore. He is NOT spacy, but he is perseverating and eye contact is poor. He is having a great, great deal of trouble interacting with anyone outside the family, and he has been unable to articulate what is wrong. He says he feels fine (i.e., healthy). His food intake has been very tightly controlled, so I don't think there have been any infractions, but then again, I can't be absolutely sure he didn't get ahold of some " contraband " at school. The smoke from the huge Day Fire (we live in the Santa Clarita/Antelope Valley area of CA) has been a problem in our area for the last two weeks, plus we have had winds and extremes in weather (cool days and warm ones in alternating succession). What are some of your experiences with this kind of backslide? What kinds of things can cause anxiety? I've sent an update to Dr. G's office, but it will be a good 18 hours before we hear anything...any and all advice and suggestions, including what I can do to make him more comfortable in the meantime, are welcome!! Guest guest
Hi Cat, Thanks so much for your input. We've tried all the available SSRI's. Zoloft and Paxil were horrible; Celexa was actually pretty good, probably the best one of all, but it didn't help with the severe social anxiety. We actually did Prozac a year ago, and it was GREAT for a while, and then stopped working fairly suddenly. Dr. G said he wanted to try it again, but I'm starting to think you may be right.
