Do you have a PT to advise you on optimal products for your kiddo's

needs? These strollerchairs can be so specialized, you know? If

you'd like to share a few more details re: tone, motor abilities, we

might be better able to help.

I'd also add, to provide the proper amount of support, if there are tone issues,

there's almost no such thing as a " lightweight " chair.

We have a Kidcart, and like it ok.

Indeed! We have a Bingo size 1 and will soon have the same chair in

size 2. The size 1 is 40 lbs. with the headrest, side supports, and

foot plate. It does fold like a stroller, and so fits into our

Odyssey or the back of my aunt's little station wagon. It would not

fit into most car trunks, nor would lifting it into a trunk be easy.

The good news is that you do adjust to the lifting of a heavier kid

and the equipment. Quinn is 40 lbs and I run while pushing him - it's

a workout, for sure, but not impossible. Side benefit: I have pretty

nice arms from all the hoisting! ;oD

We have had a heck of a time trying to get a stroller for our son who is 2 and a

half. We recently looked at the EIO stroller (special tomato) and it looked

great to me. The only concern was whether it has enough lateral support for our

son, who has weakness on his left side and therefore ends up with a curved spine

when sitting... But as far as look and ease of folding, etc. the special tomato

EIO stroller was great!

My daughter weighs almost 50 lbs, and fits fine into the special tomato EIO

chair. It actually comes with little side cushions for added support. I'm not

sure how they attach (velcro?), as we didn't use them, but at least that is

available. Plus, I think the company makes inserts for highchairs, etc. so

perhaps with the assistance of a PT you could tailor something to your child's

needs?

We have had our Metro by convaid since Josh turned 5, he is now almost 10! Never

had a single problem with it and there is still room to grow. It buses, has

tie-downs for transport, folds super easy, super light and is crash tested! So

much more easy to get around with than his wheelchair. We want a second one

soon.

We got a kiddie wheelchair at about that age. It was actually a big help, it

made me realize how little support she was getting in the stroller.

one to meet all of our needs. We also have a 2.5 yr old who loves to walk, but

still gets tired. And, I would like to use it to exercise since I can't take our

little one to the gym with me. Not sure if my 9.5 month old needs a special

stroller. He is not sitting up yet. Any suggestions?? Julissa

When we went to wheelchair services to be fitted for my sons gait trainer thy

showed us a mini wheelchair and explained all the other options available for

seating. It was very helpful. If you have such a department at your hospital or

medical center see about getting in touch with them. Lots of things available

for babies and kids. We were pretty amazed.

As for the mini wheelchair, when did you use it? They asked if we wanted them to

start the approval process with insurance for one but we didn't think it would

be useful. But since then I've been running into situations where it may be

handy and kind of kicking myself. Was your child able to operate it? Thanks!!

Oh no, we push it. It's more like a stroller in that way, but it has supports

and padding measured just for our kid. We use it pretty much everywhere now.

They are big and heavy and bulky, but it does lead to a lot more understanding

from strangers.

Carseat: we used regular britax marathon until just recently, Maureen is about

to turn 3, and just got the britax special needs seat.

Medicaid covered both, the carseat took about 3 months to go through paperwork

phase.

We used various strollers for the first 8 years, during which time we DID get

more positive interactions in the community. BUT once Josh was about 8, we

noticed in our community we received a much better and understanding, kinder

interactions from peers and adults with his Zippie wheelchair. Just a sidebar

Is it bigger and heavier than a jogging stroller? Do you use it in your home? I

am wondering if it would be handy to use as a seat for my guy. He can't yet sit

up, he's almost 15 months, and sometimes I'd love to have a seat to just set him

in so I'm not just dumping him on the floor or in his high chair so i can change

laundry or do the dishes. You know what I mean?

Hi ,

For school I'm using the Stingray tilt-in Stroller that insurance paid, however,

I needed something easier to carry around and I bought the Tomato EIO Stroller.

My daughter s 4 yrs old and about 40 " long. This stroller is big and I think it

will last her for at least three more years. Even thought they have hip and

back laterals it does not give a lot of support like the other one has but is

extremely confortable for going to mall, parks etc. the most important feature

for me is that has the capacity to fully recline which is great when she is

tired and want to sleep. See details of each stroller at www. especial

needs.com.

For sitting and " relax " time at home I was using the tumble form that i borrowed

from my therapist for almost two years and it was great. Then i had to buy one

and end up with the Tomato Soft touch Sitter with mobile tilt wedge kit.

Insurance paid for it. I love it.

Thank you all for the info. Wrote it all down for reference and research. My

biggest problem right now is that My son needs the support, but my 2 year old

still needs a stroller. Anyone had this problem or is dealing with babies and

trainer thy showed us a mini wheelchair and explained all the other options

available for seating. It was very helpful. If you have such a department at

your hospital or medical center see about getting in touch with them. Lots of

things available for babies and kids. We were pretty amazed.

My son is 8 months old. I used to take my daugher around in the BOB stroller -

she can still use it now at 3 years old, but Hudson hasn't been able to use it

because it doesn't give very good support. However, there's an awesome therapy

center up here that modifies equipment so they just modified the BOB so it

gives him support for his pelvis and shoulders. It's awesome!! And, I love

the stroller - it's a jogging stroller so it's easy to maneuver and it has lots

of storage for shopping or carrying a big diaper bag. I'm so excited to start

using the BOB again. We'll be able to use it for 3 or 4 years. : )

Oh, and I an still use it for both the 3 yr old and Hudson.

Thanks. I will see if the therapy does this or knows a place that might do it.

Oh I definitely know what you mean.I've never owned a jogging stroller, but from

what I've seen, it's probably about the same size and weight, just shaped

differently. It DOES collapse, but it's such a pain to collapse, that most of

the time, I just fold down the handle and throw in in the back of the car. We

only collapse it if we're tight on space, like going to the airport, and have

suitcases. We do use it inside, but I do have to keep an eye on the wheels. I

purposely got the wheels that are more like street bike tires. They had the

option of tires that are more like dirt bike tires, but I figured that'd just

get more dirt stuck in them. The brand is KidCart, if you want to do an image

search. She's had it since she was about 9 months, she's about to turn 3, and

they said she'd have it for another year or two. Pluses are, it handles really

well, it's easily steered with one hand, minuses, it's super heavy and not very

easy to collapse.

And, not for nothing, like I mentioned, it does tend to open some doors in

places that aren't super stroller-friendly. We were at the Georgia Aquarium and

the employees were super helpful in showing us through things. Some airlines

are no longer allowing you to take your big strollers all the way up to the

gate, but wheelchairs are ok. It also qualified us for HC parking tags, which,

I won't lie, is a nice little silver lining to the situation we're all in.

I had a Tumble Form chair on loan when we lived in Houston, but had to give it

back when we moved. I've been told, but haven't really investigated, that it

would be hard to be approved for a Tumble Form, since we have the stroller,

since Medicaid thinks of both of them as " seating " and thinks it's redundant to

have both.

Best of luck.

Is it bigger and heavier than a jogging stroller? Do you use it in your

home? I am wondering if it would be handy to use as a seat for my guy. He can't

yet sit up, he's almost 15 months, and sometimes I'd love to have a seat to just

set him in so I'm not just dumping him on the floor or in his high chair so i

can change laundry or do the dishes. You know what I mean?

They are big and heavy and bulky, but it does lead to a lot more understanding

from strangers.
