Guest guest
Bizare experience on thursday. I went for a check up and was talking to a lady who was thinking of having the surgery. This other lady arrived and weighed in and made an off the cuff remark about not losing anything and " I only had a small cake and skim milk! " . She looked fantastic! I couldn't help myself and asked " how much have you lost? " This very attractive average sized middle aged lady told me that she wasn't like me, but rather asked to have the band put on because she wanted it, but didn't need it. She said she was at the lowest limit of weight chart and had lost 5kg, but put 3kg back on when she went overseas. She then said that it was " harder to lose weight when you had so little to lose " . I was gobsmacked! Apparently she had to pay $15k for her surgery because she didn't need it and was choosing to have it done (which makes me feel a little bette about it). I can't tell you how many mixed feelings I have about this. And it was all I could do not to harrangue my doctors (Dr T. happened to swan in soon after) about it. I mean who chooses this when there much less invasive procedures available that can do the same thing! To be honest, I was also feeling a little smug with myself, having lost 18kg and I quickly told the newbie that for someone like me, who has had the disease of obesity since childhood, the surgery was well worth it and the best thing I had ever done. Tootsie piped in that she chose to have the surgery so she didn't get " the disease " ! Huh? [insert expletives here]!!! Christy
