Guest guest
Hi Alia, good to hear from you! Eye problems are part of the package, both the dryness and irritation. You probably should be checked for Sjogren’s, which dries everything out and is common in us types, it’s an immune thing. Also blurring or changing vision and easily tired eyes are part of things…I go crazy trying to get the right prescription only to have it shift and change. And who can afford new glassed all the time? Anyway your vacation sounds heavenly as well as quite timely…I hope you get a boost from the rest and the sun dear, and return renewed and feeling better! Guest guest
Hello; From the web site here as I haven't been receiving any email since recently approved to join. Alia, I'm unsure what type eye Dr. you mean but it appears off hand they jumped on the mention of CSF/FMS as cause so as not to appear ignorant. Sounds like you've been using your eyes very, or too much as you relate to a 6 year old experience as similar. Do you really think it possible to overcompensate for fatigue? I think your eyes are reacting naturally to fatigue. I hope the drops and Lacrilube? Hey, relax a little in Hawaii. Go to the beach and scream! : ) If things become worse there, I suppose increased eye usage or increased allergens may be a factor. Guest guest
I too have severe dry eyes. It took me 3 trys to find a great eye doctor. He has put plugs in my tear ducts to dam up the tears to keep the eyes from drying out. They can last up to 6 months. They have helped me tremendously because it got so bad that I had to stop driving for awhile. I tried restasis and it gave me a rash around the eyes. I use drops during the day. According to research, the eye drops that say celluvisc in the name, stay in the eye longer than others. I also use Genteal severe dry eye salve in my eyes at bedtime and sleep with an eyemask over them. I think it's called the dry eye zone (can google) and they have lots of products for people with dry eyes. Unfortunately, it can be a side trouble that some with CFS/ME face. Best of luck to you. Hope this helps, cheryl
Guest guest
Hmmm. I don't know. I think it's mostly from too much school related reading. -Alia Re: Eye Trouble Do you have any symptoms of SJorens syndrome? My doctor has tested me for that repeatedly over the years with my fibromyalgia
Guest guest
Thanx everyone for the replies. I've been using the genteal eye salve at night and the genteal moderate dry eye drops during the day, plus the fish oil pills. It seems to be helping some, but there is this one textbook that is giving me heck with the tiny font. I'm still stopping before the rest of me is tired just because my eyes are hurting too bad and just stop focusing. I can't wait until Saturday when I get my glasses (never thought I'd say that). Hopefully they'll help. If not the optometrist had some other ideas that she said I could try, though she didn't say what. Ugh, I am so tired of that hospital complex right now!!! -Alia
Guest guest
Hi all, I'm writing in reply to 'eye trouble' in general... I noticed with my eyes over the years -and this was after diagnosis as well- that the CMV virus which was detected as 'high' and present in my T cell count over the years. As I understand ME/CFS (and I also have fibro) there are 3 or so viruses which will be found to be high in terms of their count within your T cells (HHV 6, Epstein-Barr, and CMV are me). Not contagious, mind you, but .. just 'there' and the CMV is I THINK almost always one of them. Nasty thing; for my experience m eyesight got pretty much progressively worse, at times I'd have these quick little shooting pains in my eyeball and these were nothing to take medicine for. Not often that it would happen; just enough to be alarming. Then there was the damn tearing. My doctor (Enlander) said his patients seem to vary with this; either the dry eye or the tearing thing. Currently I'm doing under his supervision the Valcyte thing. Odd thing is that thus far it seems to be working! I DID get a great deal better with his usual regimen, but I think the only reason I did not reach a point of remission was all the .. STRESS in my life. Just been one thing after another. At least I've a sense of humour... Hope that this might help someone. Jane, the one with the hound > Hmmm. I don't know. Guest guest
One thing that helped me when print was seeming to jump on the page was to take an index card - blank - or other white - or pastel color if that helps you see better and cut a line out the size of the line of print and slide this down as I read each line - it helped to focus attention on that line only and might help with the tiny print - you can cover it with clear contact paper to make it more durable. Don't use it now but it helped during that time - still have the card I made - you can make a different one for each size line/book in Georgia litleqtee@... wrote: Thanx everyone for the replies. Guest guest
Alia, When you go to the eye doctor, there is a very quick painless test that they can do to see how dry your eyes really are. It is called the schirmer (SP) test. They basically put a small strip of paper in your bottom eyelid for a few seconds and that measures the level of tears that you have. It may be a good indicator for you. Take care, cheryl
