Urine Cortisol is the worst way to test. Everything you decribe is

thyroid. When you have a slow thyroid water etc is retained in your

body. Are you on thyroid meds? Your TSH is high. FT4 is in mid rage. You

need a FT3. I wish you luck with an Endo. There are very few good ones

for treating thyroid. I'd only see one about cancer, not regular treatment.

Kate

*edited by moderator* I'd only see an endo for cancer and then only when

absolutely necessary. The only thing you need an endo for is to order RAI. Your

GP can do everything else and will probably do it better.*

How did your endo manage to diagnose Hashi when you do not show any ATPO antibodies? Do you perhaps have thyroglobulin antibodies? Did he do a biopsy? He got one thing close to right: the range for TSH: 0.3-2.0! Did he put you on thyroid meds? Hypothyroidism causes edema and might account for your plump face. Tina Yee wrote: Hi EveryoneI

OK can someone explain why the URine test is the worst test?? I may need to plead my case. My endo just did the urine cortisol test and suggested a follow up ACTH stim test. She said the saliva test was a pain. Is the pain because it has to be shipped special or what? Thanks in advance! AmyKate Guynn wrote: Urine Cortisol is the worst way to test. The urine test gives an average level of cortisol for the entire day. If someone is low in the morning and high at night, they might need to be on hydrocortisone. A good doc can diagnose and treat based on just an 8am blood test along with attention to symptoms and history. Amy Nguyen wrote: OK can someone explain why the URine test is the worst test?? You are taking a collection over 24 hours and mixing it together. A saliva

test will track it four times a day. An AM cortisol will let you see how

it is in the am. It should be at the high end or a hair over. It's your

fuel for the day.

Hi Jan

My endo said that the Thyroid Peroxidase AB test was not a really

good test for the antibodies. She didn't do a biopsy or anything

other than what I listed. Perhaps I don't have Hashimoto's? Are

all docs strictly going by the TPO AB test to determine Hashimoto's?

Also, even if my Ultrasensititve TSH is 3.730, is that enough to

give me the hypo symptoms?

Thanks.

The definitive test for Hashi is a tissue biopsy. But most folks are diagnosed off of ATPO and/or thyroglobulin antibodies. Antibodies may come and go, so it is possible to have hashi and not have the antibodies all the time. Most conventional docs (and that includes almost all endos) do not take antibodies seriously and do not have any protocols for reducing antibodies. I would ask her upon what evidence she based her diagnosis of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Maybe she knows something we don't. Or maybe she assumed it was Hashi, as that is the most common kind of hypothyroidism in this country at this time. Who is your endo? In response to your other post, 50 µ is an appropriate starting dose, but is not likely to be your final dose.Tina Yee wrote: Hi JanMy endo said that the Thyroid Peroxidase AB test was not a really

The new standard for TSH is 3.20 anything over 2,0 is very suspect. If you

have symptoms then you are hypo! Hashi's or not. Good luck getting

treatment at an Endo! Biopsy is only done on a nodule over 1cm.

Hi Jan

I'm not sure where she's basing the Hashi's outside of the

Peroxidase AB test. My endo is Dr. Padma Horvit in Austin. I like

her so far but when I asked about Armour she was adamant about not

using it. I doubt she would let me get on Armour. I heard she was

a student of Dr. Arem.

Dr. Arem is now willing to prescribe Armour or a combination of Armour plus synthetic T4. The only problem is that he keeps most of his patients undermedicated because he does not like a TSH below 1.0.
