Guest guest
IVIG and plasmapheresis were discussed in depth at the 1999 conference in Bethesda MD. Tapes of that conference *might* still be available thru the office. Quality is poor but content good. I can't remember who spoke on IVIG or Plasma - Dr Klimas or Dr Hyde perhaps? The consensis was results were short lived and not worth putting the children thru the processes. My husband can attest for Plasmaexchange. He had 7 to stop the effects of GBS. Took 6 hrs to do the exchange (he's a big guy) and a HUGE cathetor inserted near his groin was used. And he ended up with a very large thrombosis (blood clot) in his upper leg Yes, Steve was NOT a happy camper. BUT it saved his life. IVIG wasn't used because a) it's a blood product it's expensive c) in GBS, it's usually only used if GBS is diagnosed after the 2 wk mark and if Camphylbacter jejuni is suspected. doris land
