Just an FYI...even though our spect scan was done in California, we

only had one done, and insurance paid for it.

My son's scan cost $2400 (not at BrainMatters), and they wanted another $40

if we wanted copies of the photos!

Brain Matters/Denver/Spect Scans

Hello. I just met a mom who had her son out at the Sensory Learning

Center in Denver for 6 weeks and while she was there she had a SPECT

done at the new Brain Matters center in Denver. She is not a

patient, apparently her parents heard about it and offered to pay for

a SPECT. Anyway, her child is 9, he went in for 2 SPECTS, one the

first day, second the next day. It cost $3600. She was given a big

booklet that shows pictures of the scans and information relating to

it. My question is this, is this the process that everyone goes

through, are 2 scans required for an adequate reading? Is $3600 what

parents are paying for this? Has anyone had a child scanned in

Denver? Thanks for any information.

Our son had a SPECT scan at Brain Matters in Denver this past August. He's 6

1/2 with multiple problems. Like the family that had their scan done in

California, our insurance company paid for a chunk of the scan. We had the two

scans done because the clinic wanted to be able have information on what our

son's brain looked like after stimuli (they gave him a kiddie Connor's, then

scanned him on the first day), and what the brain looked like at rest ( the

second scan he lay for a while in a dim room with no sound at all for a time,

then they performed the scan). In our boy's case this really helped us to see

what exactly was going on in his mind, and subsequently helped us reach a firmer

diagnosis. They provide you with a large folder of information (that they

explain to you page by page during a phone consult) that we then take with us

when searching for Dr.s and it greatly explains his situation with concrete

evidence. Best wishes.

Brain Matter inc see a variety of patients. Dr. Goldberg does not require

every scan they are capable of.

So far most insurance company's have paid for them.

Mine was the exact same way... BrainMatters in California.

I'm actually from Denver, lived in CO for 23 years (I'm only 24 now)

The scan was for myself.

The thing I wanted to know is whether the people reading the results

are 'aware' of any of the previous 'diagnosis' or 'thought to be

diagnosis' or whether the specialists never get any of that information.

That way it would be a lot more 'objective to me.' I've wondered that

since I got my scan...

I was dx'ed with Anxiety, OCD, depression, and bipolar... and maybe

concentration problems.

They did the scan, and came back with General Axiety disorder, OCD,

Cyclic mood disorder (bipolar), and ADHD.... And possible Neuroimmune

dysfunction.

So-I'm just curious.

What do you all think? Do you happen to know?

I spoke and worked with Geanie Chou (I think her name is spelled).

Thanks!
