Guest guest
My granddaugther, 6 yrs, and she also does it, quite often. It makes me think she has any pain, but she`s non verbal, so we don`t really know and it`s hard for her to open the mouse and show. Doctors says everything is OK, perhaps the last teeth growing, but I`m not really convinced about that. There`s something more for me.If someone has any advice, I thank you for that., grandmom of Flora, slight rigth PMG To: polymicrogyria From: zagrovich@... Date: Thu, 10 Nov 2011 04:34:41 +0000 Subject: Drooling and hands in the mouth I am the grandmother of Lindsey 9 years old. I care for her 2 days a week. I have a question that maybe you parents/grandparents have had experience with. I have noticed that for the last 3 weeks Lindsey has been drooling much, much more than usual. She also has been lately putting her hands/fists/fingers in her mouth. She's never done that. I wonder if she's cutting a tooth? Any thoughts on this? Even though I don't post often I do read the posts and learn so much from this site. Thank you in advance. Guest guest
My daughter jenna is 10, and has drooled profusely since the day she was born. 3 months ago I took her to NET at Children's Mercy hospital in Kansas city, and they did surgery on her mouth to tie off the salivary gland to stop/slow down the drooling. Since her surgery she has almost completely stopped drooling. I highly recommend this surgery if u have a significant problem with drooling like we have with miss jenna. As far as the sticking the fingers in the mouth thing jenna in the past year has started " sucking " her thumb. She pretty much just puts her thumb in her mouth, and just has it there (funny thing is her middle finger is on her nose so it looks like she is flipping u off). I honestly don't think there is any reason or issue that causes our little ones to do these things. They think so much different than we do. If it is not physically hurting jenna to do this I don't stop her. But this is coming from, I sucked my thumb till I was in the 6th grade. Maybe its genetics. Who knows. I definably if you have the means would check out the surgery if there is call for it there has been 1,000,000% difference. Guest guest
My son was in a lot of pain in his mouth a couple of years ago when he was around 3ish. He kept pointing to his mouth and cringing. We took him to 3 different dentists and his pediatrician. Although the dentist did see some decay they discounted the pain saying it shouldn't be why he won't let anything in his mouth. His doctor even suggested a psychiatrist. We finally made an appointment for a dentist at the children's hospital and under anesthesia they took xrays and it showed pulpitis (spl). Basically its when the tooth has so much decay it affects the gums. They ended up pulling two teeth and capping two. We are hyper vigilant now. If you suspect something insist. What I have learned over the years is the drs regard these children as invalids and almost not fully human. They really don't care. > To: polymicrogyria > From: mariapaulaluz@... > Date: Thu, 10 Nov 2011 03:23:26 -0200 > Subject: RE: Drooling and hands in the mouth > > > > > My granddaugther, 6 yrs, and she also does it, quite often. Guest guest
Hi Bonnie My son Finlay, now 10, still drools a lot and sits chewing on his fingers - strangely the only thing he does not choke on. He is currently cutting new molars and has lost a few babyteeth in the last few months, which means there are 5 new teeth coming in at the same time. As he cannot chew food, biting his fingers seems to relieve the teething feeling. Annelies Drooling and hands in the mouth > > I am the grandmother of Lindsey 9 years old.
