I have been reading on the heathiertalk forum and one person states that taking thyroid medication only suppresses the real problem..that the endoctirne system needs to be treated as a whole and that a good naturopath or TCM practitioner was needed.

Any comments on this?

,

Do you think they are talking about things like amalgam fillings, fluoride, etc? I'm relatively new to all of this.

In my case, I am almost positive that hypothyroidism is hereditary. My two girls are very likely hypothyroid. I'm pretty sure my father was hypothyroid but never diagnosed prior to dieing. I'm also fairly sure that my aunt (my father's side) is hypothyroid. I'll be curious to see what comments Jan has.

No I dont think that is what they are talking about. I too am pretty new at this. I do think hypothyroidsm can be hereditary but not always. I know that is not the cause in my case.

I had all my amalgams taken out a few years ago...i thought I had chronic fatigue syndrome - which I may have. It definitely helped! but was a hassle!!!

Please understand that while it can be hereditary, we have also had

40+ years of flouridated water as well as other chemical exposures,

(i.e., synthetic hormones) which damages if not kills off the

thyroid. I grew up with flouridated water, yet have a mouth full of

cavities--and we rarely had sugar of any kind. You're right, the whole

endocrine system is affected and may need treatment--but if one is

off, they're all off, so why no start with the one that's out and work

from there?

I don't even want to THINK about getting my amalgams changed out. . .I

don't know if anyone around here does that sort of thing, either.
