Subject: IPAD and apps

My daughter Kamby, 9, pmg, has been using an IPad at school since Sept.  The

school just ordered the proloquo2 for her the 1st of Jan.

I had the opportunity to visit with her one on one aide at school the other

day

and watch Kamby using the app.  AMAZING is all I have to say!  In one short

month Kamby is already making complete sentences with the app and is able to

communicate exactly what she wants.

The thing I really like about the app is that not only can you use their

preloaded pictures but you can use your own pictures and you can put the text

you want to them!  So every picture she chooses also speaks for her.

We are in the process of getting this for her IPad at home too!

On another note...for those of you who think you can't afford all this...if your

child is on a waiver you need to look at them paying for it.  Kamby's waiver

was

going to buy the IPad for her and then some awesome person gave our family one

right before christmas.  Now they are going to buy the app for her from her

waiver.

Stacey,

I sent you an email explaining it better, but in short Kamby has qualified for a

Medicaid Waiver position in our state. Through the waiver there are other

" funds " available than just paying for the medical bills. These funds can be

requested to be used for things that medicaid won't cover.

It's a complicated program, but has helped us with a lot of things medicaid

won't pay for...such as baby wipes, equipment, pool membership so we can take

Kamby swimming, and now the app for the Ipad.
