Guest guest
Hello everyone, Our Finlay (7, bilateral fronto parietal polymicrogyria) has had a feeding tube/mic-key button for 5 years. We are giving him bolus feeds at mealtimes to try and encourage him to have some food orally. We find that he does not often show any signs of hunger or thirst and will only eat and drink occasionally. He is on pediasure plus, but does not seem to digest this very easily and often when I am getting ready for his next meal, I find there is still plenty of feed in his stomach. This means delaying the feed and then he is not ready when the next one is scheduled. We are having trouble getting any more then 750ml down him per day. Finlay seems to need more than this, so the dieticians want me to give him top up feeds at night. That then causes the problem that he cannot always stay dry overnight and we do not want to have to put him back in nappies. Because all movement causes him effort he seems to burn up calories faster then we can put them in him. I used to blend bananas, cereal, potatoes etc. into his feed, but was told this was not good practice and I should stop that. Do any of you have a similar problem getting the child to put on weight? Have you got any suggestions? Finlay seems to be growing taller all the time, but he does not put on any weight. In fact he lost about 500g over the past year. Thanks for any advice.
