Guest guest
Hi Sharolyn, I think Dr. G didn't realize when he wrote it that Tofurella contains casien. The only soy cheeses that I know for sure don't have casien are Tofutti brand and Soymage. The Rice Krispies, Cheerios, and Corn Flakes are all okay despite being called " whole grain " because they are apparently processed enough to have most of the allergens eliminated. What Dr. G worries about is " organic " cereals and " whole grain " breads, particularly wheat, but not exclusively. The " major ingredient " issue is a little confusing to me, too. I stay away from bovine milk products as much as I can, but if my child eats something that has a milk ingredient waaaaaaaay near, or at the bottom of the list -- in the " less than 2% " section -- I don't worry about it. But I don't make it a regular part of his diet. The Do's and Don't's is a general guideline. Some children need stricter dietary interventions than it recommends, but it's a good start and a lot less restrictive than, say, a strict GFCF diet. Guest guest
Sharolyn, I think in the Rice Krispies it's whole grain rice, the Cheerios are whole grain oats and the Corn flakes are whole grain corn, so by eating those you are still avoiding whole wheat. Guest guest
Sharolyn, Tofutti is a " milk free - non- dairy " cheese it comes in mozzarella & american flavored slices. I can only find it at Ralph's market, and it's usually not where the rest of the cheeses are located, look towards where they have " vegetarian cheeses " . Good luck, Argie tofurella I am confused at the Do's and Don'ts of Diet. It states Tofurella is a good " fake cheese " but on the package the 2nd ingredient is " milk protein " . On the diet guidelines it says no product with milk or bovine protein as a " major ingredient " . What about casein or caseinate? It is a milk protein? A lot of the fake cheeses have casein in them. Also, on the diet it says processed cereals(not whole grain) for breakfast and lists Rice Crispies, Cheerios, and corn flakes. On these boxes it specifically states " WHOLE GRAIN CEREAL " as a marketing scheme. It seems contradictory and I am confused. I want to follow the diet to the T and make sure I am understanding it correctly. Thanks to anyone out there that knows the answers. sharolyn
