Guest guest
Good Grief! No, a dentist can't force you to do anything. It doesn't sound like this dentist understands autistic behavior. I would seek out a dentist who works with special needs children. At a preschool class, everyday at lunch, we used to sing a silly song about kissing your tooth brush. First, just touching it lightly on the cheek, then touching it nearer the lips and finally one day it makes it on the teeth. I don't remember the song. But, my son really liked it. that's more a sensory, or OT therapy need. But, the health of the child is most important to the strength and health of the teeth and jaw line. Which, also corresponds to the health of the bones. And you don't brush your bones! If you look at some primitive cultures and their remains (who did not eat alot of highly processed sugars, corn syrups etc)...they had perfect sets of teeth and they weren't taught to brush them. And they didn't have dentists. The problem in our autistic kids is that they are extremely hard to feed healthy food. And we are very high sugar eaters anyway who must by all means brush our teeth! I've read some really fascinating books of research on these subjects. One is called Nutrition and Physical Degeneration By Dr. Weston A. Price. > > Can a dentist FORCE you to see a psychariatrist? Guest guest
There's a tooth friendly sweetener called xylitol that has anti- bacterial properties to give them in their drinks and etc. Also, there is an old trick that I learned that works very well for me. As I was raised completely on high sugar, highly processed foods and my teeth and jawline show the results of it now. I was so frustrated at constant tooth decay and etc. no matter what I did. My doctor recommended a quality brand of Quantum Carvacrol oil (oregano oil). Which, I use five drops in the morning and five at night and swoosh around my mouth with water and rinse out. Since doing this, my dentists report to me that although, I have tarter, their is no longer active decay in my mouth. Before anti biotics oregano was used as an anti-bacterial and anti-viral. I doubt your child would want to try this until farther along with and less sensory. Oregano oil has a heat sensation in the mouth. > > Can a dentist FORCE you to see a psychariatrist?
