Underpaid for INR/Draw - Aetna

Oh, for pete's sake...can a person make a living at all on labs?

Granted, many docs can't even do labs where they are -- so I can't gripe too much, but...

We are billing Aetna an 85610 INR and 36415 Blood Draw -- LFM charges $35 + $19 = $54

But Aetna is only paying $5 -6

But our actual costs are $8.30 for the PT and $10 for the venipuncture.

Granted the venipuncture fee is overpriced, but still -- Aetna is paying under what the PT costs us alone.

There is a code saying it didn't meet the requirement because it is incidental to another procedure.

We are losing $12.99 on each blood draw.

Obviously, I need to figure out if I'm billing it wrong somehow or if Aetna is just underpaying.

If underpaying, I'll need to think about sending them to the hospital.

Patient actually got insurance to buy a home INR monitor, but the values seemed out of range, so he stopped.

Anyone else having problems w/ this?
