Guest guest
_Click here: Drug Approved. Is Disease Real? - AOL News_ (http://news.aol.com/story/_a/drug-approved-is-disease-real/20080114101709990001\ ?ncid=NWS000100000 00001) Not simply an outrage, but THIS garbage was printed in the supposed to be 'respectable' NY Times. One would think their damn medical reporters just MIGHT be a little more informed, but obviously here this cretin was ONLY 'well informed' by his friends at Pfizer... Really; I'd like to go down there (downtown from where I live) and kick his ass, but this is not very lady like and also I'm in some pain today since it's both cold and humid out. (A blizzard just missed us and the weather today is of the sort which makes me ill, even with my Lectrolyte --like recup, for anyone not familiar. I've never been a big Pfizer fan for a number of reasons (knowledge of a lawsuit they settled a few years back not having to do with US .. also direct knowledge of their inside animation/ slide presentations to their best sales people; a friend did the graphics and showed me; NOT pretty). Just thought everyone ought to see this and I was not certain how well it would be distributed/ sent out. Jane and her hound who is damn mad right now -- (Ok; I wasn't in a very good mood to begin with, but .. now?? Good Lord! Couldn't they get someone to DO such an article who is somewhat familiar with recent discoveries and research? Guess not... Too much 'work' for them.) Guest guest
I couldn't agree with you more. I read the article yesterday morning. I was angry. This is irresponsible journalism at its worst. None of the studies that confirm that fibromyalgia is a REAL illness were sited. It is so biased. Even the mainstream Dr. Oz stated on Oprah that medical professionals owe people with fibromyalgia an apology. The apology is needed because fibro patients have been treated as if they are mentally ill. I am mentally ill. I have bouts of severe depression. I also have the physical illness of fibromyalgia. It is NOT, as the article stated, normal pain. It is not as if I didn't live in my body before I got fibro and didn't know what daily aches and pains are like. I have pain now that makes me want to be unconscious. I have pain that is distracting and keeps me from doing things I would like to do. We are courageous people who have to live with pain, confusion, memory loss, headaches, IBS, TMJ and God only knows what else. I recently found out that my tinnitus could be caused by fibro. Thank you again, Fibro. I have great respect for the New York Times generally. This was a low point for them. This guy should be fired for such biased and inaccurate reporting. It is an outrage. It sets education about fibromyalgia back 20 years. Margaret
Guest guest
Hi Jane! I read this article similar to this yesterday on AOL titled Fibromyalgia a real disease? or Made up? I was soooo mad! It stated that a doctor who wrote a paper in the 90's who explained Fibromyalgia has now changed his mind that the disease is not real but a reaction to stress. HELLO! People do not always just get Fibromyalgia. There are large numbers who go on to also have Lupus or RA (Like I myself have!) And those are TWO diseases that are not a reaction to stress so why would they think FMS is? I've had the RA for about 2 years now and just began more intense treatment the later half of this last year. I was so angry to see a disease I have been suffering with since the age of 29 and turned 36 yesterday so easily disregarded by the medical community! Thank God Dr. Clauw one of the top medical researchers in the country currently a researcher at the University of Michigan stood up for the disease and stated that brain scans differ from those that have FMS to those that are healthy and do not have FMS. Guest guest
Hi Allie, Yeah get mad, but then get even! Find a GOOD article and show him/them that. If they’re impressed by the fact it was in the nY Times, give them Hillenbrand’s storey from the New Yorker. That’ll impress ‘em <sigh>. Good Luck for real understanding, Aylwin xox
