Guest guest
Hey Jerri- I'm sorry you are going thru that. Have you called the drug company maker to ask if there are any programs available to receive it at a discount? They may be able to give you a lead on that. I assume insurance isn't covering it? If that is the problem, email me to see if I can help (if you haven't already exhausted that area). __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Yes Jeri as cynthia said definitely call the pharma company. What about medicaid? I think I remember others in the past saying Dr G does not use this as much as Valtrex and Famvir. Have you tested his viral numbers lately? Hang in there and I know your son will get through this if it is the antiviral. --- In , <thecolemans4@...> wrote: > > > Hey Jerri- > > I'm sorry you are going thru that. > > Have you called the drug company maker to ask if there > are any programs available to receive it at a > discount? Guest guest
Hi Jerri. I seem to recall reading somewhere that acyclovir starts to metabolise in the stomach where as Famvir and Valtrex metabolise more in the liver converting to acyclovir their to do their job - maybe why Dr G does not prefer it. and since acyclovir begins breaking down in the gut it might create a food allergy reacting and raising eosinophils..just a hunch. For some kids it seems to work fine, others not. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Jerri Gann Sent: Friday, September 29, 2006 2:40 AM Subject: Acyclovir Vs. Famvir I just went through a trial of putting my son on Acyclovir to try and save us money because Famvir is so expensive. My son after 10 days is so out of it. He started the school year off fairly well, but now it's pretty bad. He is standing up in the middle of class saying inappropriate things, not doing any work, tapping two pencils constantly, hyper and running around, and generally in his own world. I'm pretty sure it is because of the change in anti-viral. We did change the anti-fungal twenty days ago. I saw a little die-off and then only improvement from this initially but maybe we did these changes too close together. I had run out of Famvir and had a full bottle of Acyclovir and asked Dr G if I could do this to save some money. He's EOS went back up to 5% also when we had them down to 1%. I have not changed his diet. He did have a few infractions at parties which caused very weird behavior so I know I can't even allow that at this time but I didn't think that would bring the EOS up so much if that's what did it. I guess I am really baffled, scared and sad. I don't know if any of you have input here but I would greatly appreciate it. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced any of this. Also, if Marcia could respond about whether her son is still on an anti-viral and if it is Famvir. I don't know how we are going to afford it for so long but I guess I will have to figure out a way. Thanks so much, Jerri
Guest guest
Jerri, My son is still on an antiviral. Try contacting the drug company. Tell them your story. Sometimes they have programs for people who can't afford their medications. Also someone on the list talked about getting their kid qualified for Medicare or some other program that would cover the meds because of the diagnosis. If you are in California, contact your regional center for info on how to get help. Unfortunately, you have to find a way to get this drug. My kid's autism symtoms return without it.
