Re: unilateral PMG and learning

My daughter who is almost 8 has the same inconsistent learning issues. Her dx is

bilateral but we get mixed reports of whether it is just frontal or

frontoparietal. She is not having seizure issues we are told right now but does

have spikes mainly at night. Her last eeg looked better however her learning and

motor function has declined. Right now she does a virtual public school but her

abilities vary day to day so it can be very frustrating. Complex ideas, reading,

and math are issues. Our psych-ed testing also just left us with more questions.

She does not present with a learning disability but has learning issues it

stated. Hmmm. We are looking into neuropysch testing now. Her recall from day to

day for school is low but she can tell you where she put

something with no problem. We need to just figure out her best learning style

but for our daughter is seems to vary even from subject to subject. She is more

auditory of a learner but has to hear it out of someone elses mouth for things

like sounding out words.

Any successes with this would be great. I am just hoping someday it will start

clicking.

Best of luck. The neuros are good but kind of take the she's doing better than

we ever expected stance so they can be slightly unsympathetic.

I don't know if this will help, but sometimes color coding and using

manipulatives, in the same colors can help. Like the number 36, write the 3 in

red, 6 in blue, then show that 3 is really 30 in red manipulatives and 6 blue

manipulatives. Just an idea, you probably already tried. As for regrouping, can

he determine if say 24 is closer to 20 and not 30? That could be a starting

point if not.
