Guest guest
Please prepare me for what to expect when beginning Valtrex? I have a pill cutter but how do I give it to him? In food? Do some of you treat the " die off " with charcoal or something? Will he get sick on this? Kristie Aidan 3.
Guest guest
K - I washed the blue coating off under running water. Then I measured out 1 teaspoon (5 cc) of water into a medicine bottle, and put the pill in there overnight to dissolve (it took at least overnight). Then, I carefully measured in a syringe the amount my son was supposed to get (it has been a while, but I think it was 1/4 tablet, so 1.25 cc of the mixture), and gave it to him with a syringe (follow with a chaser if you think your son needs it). He had die off for several days. Cranky, whiny, oppositional, acted like he didn't feel well, drove me nuts. Then, he woke up one day calm, made great eye contact, discovered his twin sis for the first time and they became best friends, sat on the couch with us and read books for several minutes at a time, etc. Kristy What to expect when starting Valtrex? Guest guest
Hi Kristie- We washed off the dye, crushed it, mixed in about a tsp of coooold liquid, shot it towards the back of the mouth, and washed it down w/a cold liquid and gave a quick treat. You probably shouldn't worry much about the die-off, although tylenol could be okay if you don't worry about it. I don't have an opinion on charcoal 'cause we've never had die-off - just immediate brightening. It really starts taking off after a couple of weeks, too - depending on the child of course. We saw maybe a touch of tummy upset - not enough to complain of, maybe just the slightest grumpiness, but the eyes were what were really astounding - increased contact, increased awareness, and development and energy started taking off. We didn't see as much on Valtrex as we did Famvir, but it varies w/every child. That doesn't mean we didn't see a LOT on Valtrex, but then we got yet another leap when switching. It was truly awesome! Don't worry about the negatives unless they happen. They don't always, but that certainly doesn't mean it's not working.
