Make yourself a pair of mocassins. Just about as natural as you can get without being barefoot. I really detest wearing shoes as they make my feet hurt, my legs hurt, and my back hurt. Mocassins, now that is a different story. Going barefoot helps to ground the body by allowing energy flow from you to the earth. Works wonders. Gets rid of static electricity that builds up in the body. -- Peace, love and light, Don Quai " Spirit sleeps in the mineral, breathes in the vegetable, dreams in the animal and wakes in man. For some people having good shoes is important due to foot problems or whatnot. Being overweight etc. Bad shoes will do much to damage to your feet, legs and back, however, I have a differing opinion on this one. Your arch will only collapse if you are overweight or predisposed to having flat feet or you smash your foot flat. Millions of people go barefoot everyday and have for millions of years. Many of them never had a problem with falling arches either. In the history of man, foot containing shoes (hard shoes, tennis shoes) are a very recent addition. Most of mankind has either gone barefoot, worn mocassins or sandals. High heels are one of woman's worst nightmare healthwise. The human body is perfect in design and was never meant to be on heels, not even slight ones. The foot was meant to be flat, that is how the body is designed. Raising the heel even an inch throws your whole center of gravity off and unbalances you. Therefore you overcompensate with you back and hips. The higher the heels the more you will suffer, eventually. Then there is the cramming of the toes into shoes that don't have proper stretch. From having to wear shoes most of my life my toes are naturally crammed together and not spread apart. I actually have flat feet and find that wearing shoes makes my feet hurt more than not wearing shoes. I much prefer being barefoot or wearing mocassins just for that reason. Okay I'll get off my soapbox now. -- Peace, love and light, Don Quai " Spirit sleeps in the mineral, breathes in the vegetable, dreams in the animal and wakes in man. Guest guest
LOL!!! I'm always barefoot and generally only wear sandals in the winter when I have to. ) It will attract attention, that's for sure. If I'm outside for a length of time in the winter, I will put on shoes tho. Becky Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again. Guest guest
When I was a teenager in the early '70s I went barefoot as much as possible, but that was in Seattle (and sidewalk-spitting wasn't a national pastime yet). Don't remember it making much difference to my health, I just still don't like my feet confined. I'd be cautious about going barefoot when the temp gets below 25F. Frostbite, chillblains, so on. And have her dry her toes really well before putting socks and shoes back on if they are wet, especially wet and cold. She might need different shoes too, if there is such a difference in how she feels. Birkenstocks or the like. Guest guest
Hee! I did try that! When I was in college I went barefoot an entire winter, and since I lived on campus and they didn't mind me being barefoot in class (liberal arts school, heh) I almost never wore shoes. Walked around in the ice and snow and everything. It was GREAT! I would do it again in a heartbeat--for one thing, it was the first and only winter I've ever experienced that I wasn't cold, at all! Can't explain why, but once my feet got used to the bare ground, the rest of my body just...adjusted somehow, and I went the whole winter with a medium (leather) jacket on and no gloves, no scarf, no hat, nothing. Didn't get sick at all, either. There were other, more nebuluous, nice effects too, like feeling very much more aware of my surroundings, but I won't get into all those. I wasn't really experimenting health-wise so much as trying to be like Socrates, who purportedly didn't wear shoes even in foot-high snow. My classmates and I didn't really believe it, so I got voted in to prove it could be done. But I would so do it again...if only I did more walking besides to my car and back! (This isn't something you can do off-and-on, by the way; you have to " almost never " wear shoes, so your body can get and stay used to it, or it doesn't work.) Thanks for the memories! -ST RDAugustine wrote: > My daughter Jasmine is doing an experiment... natural but not herbal > > Yep, she is going barefoot everywhere except where she isn't allowed > (businesses, etc) and she takes her shoes with her and puts them on > before going in.
