Guest guest
Hi Sharon... Yes has the " vest " and we have had great great success with it. His sessions are 20 minutes also... but we split the time going from 10z to 11z to 12z depending on his tolerance. 12z is alittle tough on , but the 10z seems to usually be sufficient enough to get him to move mucus and get a good cough going. He usually likes it... and giggles through the treatment. In the beginning...he seemed alittle bit stunned afterward, but he got used to it. has at least 3 treatments a day, and his nurses take it to school to make sure he gets one during the day. Give him alittle time to get used to it... I put it my other son...just so he could tell me how it feels...and he liked it, he said it tickled him and he likes how his voice vibrates. No one ever warned me of seizures and our neurologist gives it a bigs thumbs up. I'm glad to hear you got it... The other thing we often do, especially when he is sick, is we give him a nebulizer treatment either before or during the treatment to open up the airway and allow him to bring up the congestion... I also have suction on hand, and use that periodically... doesnt always have the greatest coughing ability. Now that we have had the fundoplication, there is no risk of him vomitting or refluxing either... We are very very pleased with it.. Two things have significantly improved his life this year 1) getting the VEST and the 2) getting him into a sleep safe bed at night so we can properly position him for safe all night feeds and also keep him safe from any dangers. Hope that helps... I think its very stimulating and he may be just overwhelmed at first... ALSO I don't know why they started you at 12z...try bringing it down to 10z and see if that makes a difference. Good luck..... (11) received one yesterday and I have questions. How long is 's session? What is the HZ? What is the PSI ? is at 12z and the PSI is 4. They recommend 20 minutes twice a day. We try very hard to make a game out of it. So far so good ...however, 's eyes dilate afterward and he can't seem to focus. Almost pre-seizure like. Now... has been known to scare himself silly to the point of going into a seizure. Did do any of this at the beginning? Guest guest
Thank you . We thought about lowering to 10hz. We have been giving the nebulizer treatments at the same time as well. The RT did tell us to give the machine 2-3 weeks to see significant results. Apparently the Insurance Compnay will be phoning us to check usage(machine has readings) and results(suction levels, etc) before they decide to spend the $14,000 on the machine. Since moving to Texas this year from California has had 3 sinus infections and the mucas just seems to be drowning him. He had the Fundo done about 4 years ago...so we are safe in that regard. doesn't get any night feeds but we do have his bed raised at the head quite a bit. Since was a small child we have made a big deal & praised him when he coughs...and he still coughs great but since Texas...we can't keep up... even with the manual percussion. It kills me to see him struggle with all the mucas. I hope we meet the Insurance Company standards to keep the machine. The Vest Company is very good about filing appeals etc. Thanks again for your advise. Guest guest
I hope your insurance covers it... is on Connecticut title 19 (through a program called the Beckett Waiver Model) and they paid for it... Everytime I look at that thing...I think about how much money its worth. His bed... $9,000. They paid for that too... funny thing about the bed.. they would not authorize a wedge pillow to elevate his head, but they authorized a $9000 bed. Go figure. Hil-Rom will call you for readings... they still call us every three months, and we have had it for a year now. That's no big deal... as you will be using it... hang in there for a couple of weeks... you would think Texas would be better for breathing??? No??? I would give anything to be in Texas today...it is bitter bitter bitter cold and we are buried in snow. Good luck with 's vest...sounds like you are right on it!!! Keep up the good work. Guest guest
Hi , Well, lowering the hz worked. 10hz is perfect for ! He likes it so much now that he is pouting when it stops and we take off the vest. Thank you for your input. Yes, you would think the breathing would be easier in Texas. Not for and hubby. Me, I have zero allergies now. Go figure. The weather here in Texas is quite funny. 70 one day. 48 the next ! I have to say...I don't miss the snow we got back in the foothills of CA. Stay warm. hugs, Sharon From: Sharon <gpeach3sbcglobal (DOT) net> Subject: Airway Vest- Hasselberger To: " Polymicrogyria " <polymicrogyria@ yahoogroups. com> Date: Sunday, December 21, 2008, 9:47 PM Hi and Group, If I remember correctly... your has an Airway Clearing Vest.
