Guest guest
Hi all, We saw the orthopedic surgeon last week. He is recommending an additional surgery this coming summer for Wesley, who will be eighteen in April. As some of you know, Wesley had hamstring lengthening to reduce contractures this past summer. Well Wes is not progressing. The AFO's or anti-crouch braces did not help Wes. He could not walk in them. He kept falling down. So now the next surgery, which is more intense for both legs, will involved a lot. The doctor wrote down what the procedure is: supra condylar femoral extension osteotomy. I think this involves taking part of the bone from the femor, adjusting the patellas (kneecaps) etc. I went on line and found an article written by Dr. Gage, out of MN. I paid for the article because it was 25 pages long. I told the PT yesterday that I'm not the type of mother to look for a " cure " for my son. There is no cure for pmg/CP. The PT's only question is will Wesley " mentally " get use to the change, stand tall, etc? My very thoughts. If any of your children/young adult children have had this procedure, please share your thoughts. This will make three major surgeries for Wes.(SDR, Hamstring Lengthening, and now this. He also had the VNS implant done too.) Thanks for your support. Patty, mom to Wesley, still smiling and playing those games.
