Hello Sleep Deprived in the Midwest and many other Sleep Deprived

parents!

Yes, same here! Sleep? What is that?

I have posted on this issue prior and will give you a quick update

although my info will probably not solve your problems, I wish it

could.

Our little guy (2yrs, 3mo) right sided unilateral PMG does not sleep

either! We are up with him on average 4 times per night (the worst

was 11). We have him on Melatonin on the 'over the fence' advice of

the neurologist. It really seems to help him settle, but does not

keep him asleep. We are now on the 'time released' kind. We have

had an Oximetry test done (a sleep test to read the oxygen levels in

the blood to rule out sleep apnea)and it came back great - no sleep

apnea! My first thought was GREAT! Ny second was NOW WHAT? :) (The

pediatrician ordered the test before she put him on any sleeping

medication). So in the meantime, we are awaiting the date for the

sleep clinic (not sure either what that will show), but we also are

having our son's tonsils removed in March. He suffers from chronic

tonsillitis (on average every 2.3 months)and is now not responding

to 4 antibiotics, so the dr has agreed to remove them (risky with

someone so little but there are risks leaving him as is as well.)

This ENT Dr thinks it will definitely help with his sleep....

So.....we wait for the surgery, see if that helps, then the sleep

clinic, then a sleep medication. (I think). I have read about 4

books on the subject of sleep, tried some of the techniques, but

like most of you, are so darn tired that at 4 am I tend to resort to

what works at that moment! My husband works out of town, so I am

dealing with 3 kids pretty much on my own and am completely

exhausted! Our pediatricain actually admitted that children with

neurological disorders sometimes have trouble with sleep....WOW! I

just about fell over; that was the first any medical professional

admitted there may be a connection with sleep and PMG!

So, hang in there! I don't know what else to say! I just wish I

too could sleep, be the person I used to be, and function more

normally!

Signed,

Sleepless in Alberta, Canada! , mom to , right sided PMG &

CMTC

p.s/ We are also looking into Sensory Integration Disorder - sleep

problems may be realted to sensory function, i.e. not being able to

sooth oneself back to sleep. My son has never been able to cry him

self to sleep, not that I recommend that but at times when you think

he should have cried himself out - he wouldn't, he just keeps going!

Does anyone know more about this Sensory Integration Disorder? It

is new to me but with everything else going on, I don't know where

to start or even if I have the energy right now to start sifting

through that right now...maybe after the holidays...

SEASON " S GREETINGS TO ALL!
