Guest guest
Hi, I am worried (as usual) about my daughter. She has fallen asleep in her math class a number of times and we've handled it by taking TV, music, computer away. It hasn't helped. She fell asleep yesterday and the teacher was unable to wake her up. This is how she is at times in the middle of the night (and often pees in the bed because she is in such a deep sleep) but I am worried that this is happening during the day. Has anyone had any experience with this and do you have any suggestions for us? Thanks so much,
Guest guest
Hi , Our son was doing the same thing. I've noticed that it happened when his immune system is fighting something. What helped was that I let her sleep in the morning and I just took him to school late, I told the teacher ahead of time so that she wouldn't mark him absent. Also, I didn't let him take a nap during the day. Is your daughter having trouble falling asleep at night too? Our son, wouldn't go to sleep sometimes until midnight (because he napped during the day). Today he was tired and wanted to nap to avoid doing his homework at home. His aid said that usually he would fall asleep during math (he's does not like it) and rug time (his time to tune out). Also, very hot days make him extra tired and sleep as well. Try to find out when she's falling asleep in class. It could be that she's just worn out and her immune system is out of whack. Good luck, Argie Deep Sleep Hi, I am worried (as usual) about my daughter. She has fallen asleep in her math class a number of times and we've handled it by taking TV, music, computer away. Guest guest
Hi Argie, Thanks so much for writing so quickly! She's falling asleep at the end of the day, during math. She likes math and is good at it so I suppose she could be bored but I don't know. She is on her 2nd round of antibiotics for strep, so it may be an out of whack immune system. Her homeroom teacher told me she's been off the past few days, much more inattentive and active than usual. Besides the anitbiotics, we stopped giving her Koala Crisp cereal since it's made with brown rice and Dr. G wasn't happy with it. We changed to Rice Crispies. When her teacher asked her yesterday what was going on she said her brain was moving too fast because of the rice crispies. I don't know if she is right, we asked her when she was eating them at the beginning how she felt and she kept telling us great. We didn't notice any funny things, but she has been so tired lately it seems. Thanks again, At 12:38 AM 3/14/2007, you wrote: >Hi , > >Our son was doing the same thing. Guest guest
As a child I used to fall asleep when I was tested, and also during some of the more complicated subjects like math and things requiring memorization. It was like a mental fatiguing triggered it and I was out. I was being tested for gifted classes and to figure out how I was processing math because I did it differently somehow, but I couldn't complete the testing because within 20 minutes, I would be out. I was not sleepy as long as I was not trying to process info. I was also a PANDAS kid. No advice to give since you're w/Dr G. I was just suggesting the classes themselves or over-sensory processing could be triggering it?
